X-Men ’97 Showrunner Is Going To War With Disney

By Jason Collins | Published

Former X-Men ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo has spoken out about his exit from the massively successful animated series, dismissing Disney and Marvel’s allegations of egregious misconduct as false. Additionally, the former showrunner is attempting to flip the script by calling out both Marvel and Disney over alleged toxic working environments and near-criminal working conditions based on company actions that supposedly foster paranoia to ensure compliance.

DeMayo’s Side

Beau DeMayo is soldiering on through his one-man campaign against Disney and Marvel Studios after being fired from the X-Men ’97 series earlier this year.

DeMayo’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, has filed an expedited jury trial seeking a complaint in LA Superior Court to remove the allegedly “illegal non-disparagement provision” from DeMayo’s exit package, which prevents him from making negative comments about Disney and Marvel.

In the meantime, the writer had a thing or two to say about both companies on his OnlyFans account.

His Video

Beau DeMayo opened the video post by saying that the rumors being spread around him online—alleging he sent inappropriate photos to colleagues at Marvel and Disney—are offensive.

He said the rumors are part of a smear campaign that’s specifically designed to discredit his credibility in order to cover up blatant racism, sexism, homophobia, and other prejudicial misconduct that stretches all the way to the very top of Marvel Studios.

Racism And Homophobia?

Beau DeMayo also stated that his sexuality and race were the real issues at Disney and Marvel and the main cause for his removal from X-Men ’97. DeMayo also alleged that Marvel had specifically leaked information about his own misconduct to distract the public from what really caused the offense and completely discredit him.

At the same time, his lawyer stated that the illegal non-disparagement provision is designed to muzzle DeMayo, who possesses knowledge and evidence regarding Marvel’s illicit and unsafe employment practices.

The Initial Allegations

Unfortunately, the allegations from both sides are being kept vague. For context, Beau DeMayo, the creator and showrunner of X-Men ’97, was fired by Disney’s Marvel Studios just one week before the series pilot was set to debut, with Marvel citing egregious misconduct as the reason for his termination.

Subsequent rumors at Disney mentioned photos supposedly sent to DeMayo’s colleagues and accusations of the showrunner getting too touchy with his staff.

The NDA Clause

Beau DeMayo now alleges that the rumors were started by Disney and Marvel in an attempt to discredit him and thus render any negative commentary about both companies invalid in the eyes of the public.

However, the former showrunner stated that his firing was partially due to his sharing of LGBTQ fan art and his identity as a gay Black man, with his lawyer now asking for a removal of the NDA clause from his exit package.
