Sequel To The Worst MCU Movie Will Be Here Sooner Than Expected
An insider says Eternals 2 has been added to the MCU's production calendar.
Upon its initial release in 2021, Eternals was met with dismal reviews and disappointing numbers at the box office. However, the film ended on a cliffhanger that has Marvel fans speculating if a sequel was possible in the future even though no word had been released on the possibility. In a recent tweet from industry insider KC Walsh, it was revealed that Eternals 2 has been “added to Marvel’s production calendar,” meaning fans can now look forward to the sequel of the worst Marvel movie coming sometime in the near future.
Eternals 2 has not yet been announced publicly and was only added to the studio’s internal calendar. However, being added to the schedule means that Marvel is set on making the film, and the movie is most likely in the early stages of development. It is too soon to know when Eternals 2 might be released or even when the studio will announce it, but fans can rest assured they can expect that the new installment is on its way.
When the first Eternals came out in November 2021, it received mixed reviews. Some praised the film’s stunning visuals but criticized it for its character development, pacing, runtime, and screenplay. Grossing only $420 million worldwide, the film is one of Marvel’s worst-performing movies of all time, coming out above only Black Widow, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Incredible Hulk.
The film stands as Marvel’s lowest-scoring film on Rotten Tomatoes, although it is now tied with the newest Ant-Man movie. Despite often being considered the worst movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans and critics alike are still excited by the possibility of a new installment. Shang-Chi 2 was not released in the original Phase Five and Phase Six schedules. However, fans know that does not mean the film will not happen. Like with Deadpool 3, Marvel will add films to the schedule as they are publicly announced.
With the sequel added to the studio’s internal calendar, it is likely fans can expect a public announcement sometime in the months to come. Unfortunately for loyal fans, KC Walsh’s tweet is not the official announcement for Shang-Chi 2 or Eternals 2. Those excited about the newest installments will have to wait a while longer for official word on the movies.
