Wonder Twin powers, activate! Form of KJ Apa and Isabel May! The upcoming HBO Max movie based on the DC Comics Wonder Twins has finally cast the sibling leads and the Riverdale and 1883 stars have nabbed the roles.

If you’re not familiar with the Wonder Twins from the comics or their multiple animated appearances in Superfriends shows, the two siblings are aliens from the planet Exxor with the ability to shapeshift. KJ Apa will be playing Zan and Isabel May will be playing Jayna. Zan is able to change into any form of water while Jayna is able to change into any form of animal. The upcoming movie is going to be an action-comedy, which seems like the perfect fit for these two semi-goofy characters. I mean, Jayna literally turns into an eagle sometimes to carry Zan around in a bucket of water. Hopefully, Gleek, their pet Space Monkey, will also be prominently featured in The Wonder Twins.

The Wonder Twins will be directed by Adam Sztykiel who co-wrote the upcoming DC film Black Adam, which stars Dwayne Johnson in the lead role. The DC Cinematic Universe is getting bigger and bigger by the day, and there are a ton of projects in the near future. The DC Universe seems to be hitting a bit of stride with its live-action properties after having mixed results for years. If The Wonder Twins is half as good as the recent DC action-dramedy show Peacemaker, then we’re definitely in for a real treat. The Wonder Twins is due to start production in production in Atlanta this summer, so we’ll likely get a release date in the near future.

Until The Wonder Twins is released, there should be plenty of DC projects to keep fans entertained. The Batman reintroduced us to the Caped Crusader in an exciting way. The next movie you’ll be able to catch is the animated DC League of Super-Pets on July 29, which highlights the pets of our favorite DC heroes. Funnily enough, that movie will feature Dwayne Johnson in a lead role as Krypto, Superman’s dog.

Right after that, you’ll be able to see Dwayne Johnson in an entirely different DC role, as the antagonistic and super-powerful Black Adam. Black Adam recently got pushed to an October release date. Then we have the Shazam! sequel, the Aquaman sequel, and possibly The Flash. The Flash is more of a question mark at this point, as there are some issues surrounding star Ezra Miller. The Wonder Twins will have a different vibe, but this is a studio trying all different things.

It may be a while before The Wonder Twins hit HBO Max, but there are plenty of TV shows on the platform to check out in the near future. Fan favorites like Doom Patrol, Titans, and the animated Harley Quinn are all due to release new episodes before the end of the year. We’re even getting a series based on the critically acclaimed Sandman graphic novels. DC fans have a lot to look forward to. Hopefully, they’ll be able to maintain their hot streak and release more crowd-pleasers and less Batman v Supermans when The Wonder Twins unite.
