Witcher Star Jumps To DC Superhero Universe In The Perfect Role
James Gunn is launching his all-new DC superhero universe soon, and fans have been on the edge of their seats regarding casting announcements. Though we don’t yet know who will be replacing Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, we know who will voice one of her oldest enemies in the show Creature Commandos. On the social media platform Threads, Gunn revealed that The Witcher actor Anya Chalotra will be joining the DCU as the Wonder Woman villain Circe in the highly-anticipated animated series.
If you’re not familiar with Creature Commandos, this is a show that takes Gunn’s title for the first chapter of the DCU, “Gods and Monsters,” quite literally. It will be the first animated series in the DCU and will feature a variety of monstrous characters teaming up to fight against evil. These colorful characters include G.I. Robot, Frankenstein’s Monster, Dr. Phosphorous, and more.
Now, we know at least one of the villains that the team will tangle with over the course of the series. Ana Chalotra will be playing Circe, an evil sorceress straight out of Greek mythology. She is a frequent Wonder Woman villain but doesn’t mind fighting other foes, and it should prove interesting to see how our motley collection of superheroes fights against someone who frequently goes toe to toe with actual gods.
One of the reasons that this casting news has fans so excited is that it seems genuinely perfect. Anya Chalotra has a legion of fans thanks to her memorable performance as Yennefer of Veneberg in The Witcher, so it only seems fitting that she lend her voice to another sexy sorceress. Considering that she is such a big name among genre fans, many speculate that she will eventually make live-action appearances in the DCU.
While we’d love to see Anya Chalotra having big-screen DCU adventures, she is much likelier to pop up on the live-action series Paradise Lost. If you’re not aware, Paradise Lost is a prequel series set on Wonder Woman’s famous island of Themyscira. The entire show takes place before Wonder Woman is born, but that doesn’t rule out other familiar DC heroes and villains popping up, and Circe would serve as a solid antagonist to help anchor the series.
Even if Anya Chalotra doesn’t make appearances beyond Creature Commandos, it sounds like she will fit right in with this quirky cast. Right now, the show has some major talent, including Firefly’s Alan Tudyk voicing Dr. Phosphorus, Guardians of the Galaxy’s Sean Gunn voicing Weasel and G.I. Robot, and Stranger Things’ David Harbour voicing both Frankenstein and his monster. The cast is quite solid, and in the same Threads post, Gunn teased that we’d be getting more announcements of “cool actors” very soon.
Killer casting may reflect how much pressure the creators of Creature Commandos are feeling: while many fans consider James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy as the true beginning of the DCU, that movie won’t come out until 2025. Meanwhile, Creature Commandos will be dropping this year, and if we were betting fans, we’re likely to see the seven episodes of the first season drop around Halloween. Here’s hoping it’s as good as it sounds… after years of disappointing tricks, it’s time that DC fans get served some treats tasty enough to make us forget The Flash and Aquaman 2.
