This year and 2025 seem to be the years for witches and magic. With anime like Wistoria: Wand and Sword, Once Upon a Witch’s Death, Witch Hat Atelier, Witch on the Holy Night, and Secrets of the Silent Witch, there is no shortage of magic for fans to enjoy over the next few seasons. However, there’s at least one more series based on those with supernatural powers coming out in 2025 called Witch Watch.

Witch Watch focuses on a boy named Morihito and his childhood friend, Nico. Nico is training to be a witch, and Morihito is an exceptionally strong descendant of ogres. However, there’s a twist; he is to be her familiar and it is his duty to protect her from any dangers she will face.

Witch Watch was originally a manga written by Kenta Shinohara.

It’s a struggle for Nico as well, who has been in love with Morihito since they were young. But her crush seems so focused on his duties that romance seems completely off the table. It probably doesn’t help that there’s a prophecy of doom hanging over the witch’s head, making his job even more daunting.

The two struggle to handle the chaos of everyday life as their abilities cause all sorts of unpredictable problems for these two teenagers. During their adventures, they end up meeting other magical creatures including a tengu, a werewolf, and a vampire.

Witch Watch was originally a manga written by Kenta Shinohara. This isn’t Shinohara’s first adaptation. In 2019, his manga Astra Lost in Space also received a one-season anime.

Witch Watch is scheduled to release in August 2025.

Witch Watch’s manga was first released in 2021. It currently has 17 volumes and is still ongoing as of this August. It’s described as a romantic comedy with fantasy elements.

Witch Watch is a fairly popular manga, with over 1.1 million copies of the first eight volumes having circulated by November 2022 after only being out for a little over a year and a half.

Getting an anime of Witch Watch is pretty exciting news for those who enjoy Shinohara’s work, as this is likely to be his last serial series, as he announced on Twitter that it’s growing physically harder for him to continue to do anymore.

The cast of Witch Watch includes Ryouta Suzuki (Dr. Stone: New World) as Morihito Otogi, Rina Kawaguchi (Kizuna no Allele) as Nico Wakatsuki, Tomori Kunsunoki (Chainsaw Man) as Nemu Miyao, Kouhei Amasaki (Mob Psycho 100) as Kanshi Kazamatsuri, Kaito Ishikawa (My Hero Academia) as Magami Keigo.

Witch Watch isn’t Kenta Shinohara’s first adaptation. In 2019, his manga Astra Lost in Space was adapted into a one-season anime.

Bibury Animation Studios (The Quintessential Quintuplets 2) is handling the production of Witch Watch, with Hiroshi Ikehata (Tonikawa: Over the Moon For You) and Masao Kawase (Blue Lock) as director and assistant director, respectively.

The series is still a way out for fans. It’s set to release sometime in August 2025. As the date gets closer, more about Witch Watch will likely be released, including additional cast, season length, and the exact release date.

However, to show what fans are waiting for with Witch Watch, the team has provided a teaser trailer. It shows some of the animation style as well as comedic scenes involving the two main characters.
