Will Smith And Michael Bay Reuniting For A Massive Netflix Movie
Could we get a match made in silly action heaven? It looks closer to reality, with recent words, as if Will Smith and Michael Bay are circling another movie together. It’s been more than 20 years since these two dudes put their collective big-budget talent into the same flick, but it could be happening with Fast and Loose. Deadline has it that the two are in final negotiations for the Netflix action movie. What a time to be alive.
Fast And Loose
Fast and Loose has all the hallmarks of a ridiculously entertaining action movie and we are all for it. Honestly, the description sounds like something a Michael Bay and Will Smith Mad Lib would cook up for viewers.
The story centers on a man who wakes up in Tijuana (perfect) with no memory of his past life and no idea how he got there.
Just a regular Joe, right? Someone just sleeping off a bender in the best party place to do it, right? Wrong.
In this case, Will Smith’s character will come to realize he’s living two separate lives. And what a two lives these are folks. One is as a crime kingpin (perfect) and the other is as a CIA agent (double perfect).
The Perfect Kind Of Popcorn Movie?
Fast and Loose appears to have a loose grip on reality, likely making up for it with that fast pace, and that’s all we want from Michael Bay and Will Smith. It doesn’t have to be realistic, it just has to be fun.
This is part of why movies are made. I would say from this description, they are understanding the assignment.
Bad Boys Franchise
Will Smith and Michael Bay have worked together before, but you have to go back some years. That was with 1995’s Bad Boys and then the 2003 follow-up Bad Boys II.
Those two movies were flashing, glitzy, overly-hued and stylistically Hollywood. Was there much of a story? Nope, but we got tons of action, plenty of explosions, Will Smith oneliners and everyone walked away happy.
Fast and Loose will be the first project the two have worked on together since. Will Smith did return to the Bad Boys franchise with Bad Boys for Life in 2020, and Bad Boys: Ride or Die in 2024, but those movies were directed by Adil & Bilall. Michael Bay wasn’t involved.
Michael Bay Still In On The Action
Michael Bay, for his part, has stayed in the action genre, though he hasn’t put out a movie since 2022’s Ambulance with Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen, and Eiza Gonzalez.
It was a silly thrill ride through Los Angeles in the aforementioned ambulance following a botched heist.
Critics were generally fine with the output, understanding the Michael Bay aspects of the movie, going in.
Michael Bay And Will Smith With Netflix
Will Smith and Michael Bay teaming up for a Netflix movie is the first for them in that sense, but both have worked with the streamer before.
Smith did Bright, an ambitious buddy cop urban fantasy film that pretty much flopped. And Michael Bay did 6 Underground, the Ryan Reynolds starrer that also flopped.
Let’s hope Fast and Loose is a different story all around. There’s reason to suspect it’s a winner for the streamer.
