Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 Actor Was Mistaken For A Toy Story Character
Will Poulter was referred to as Sid, the bully from Toy Story, by a fan in Los Angeles.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 star Will Poulter has been the subject of a number of strange appearance-based comments throughout the course of his career. Back in 2018, the Adam Warlock actor faced so much scrutiny for his appearance that he left Twitter to avoid facing the droves of rude comments after appearing in the Netflix interactive film Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. According to a write-up in Movie Web, Poulter has even been misidentified as Sid, the computer-animated bully from 1995’s Toy Story.
Putting aside the fact that Toy Story is an animated film in which the actors lending their voices do not appear in live action, the first film in the franchise arrived at the box office when Will Poulter was only 2 years old. While the actor humorously concedes that he shares some visual similarities with the computer-rendered character, Poulter questioned just how it was possible that a fan could confuse him for the iconic film bully. But, as the story goes, that’s exactly what happened just last week as Poulter was exiting a public restroom somewhere in Los Angeles.
There are plenty of tales of Hollywood celebrities being mistaken for one another in the bustling city of LA, including Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon, or Mark Wahlberg and Matt Damon, or even Breaking Bad‘s Jesse Plemons, who was affectionately given the nickname “Meth Damon” by fans of the series due to his striking resemblance to Matt Damon. Of course, this may be the first time in which an actor was misidentified as a decades-old cartoon character. Will Poulter also acknowledged, while discussing the encounter, that he once appeared in an anti-bullying campaign dressed as Sid, so that may be where the original seed was planted.
The photos from the campaign have since been shared around the web as memes, joking about Will Poulter’s appearance in a myriad of ways that range from lighthearted ribbing to full-on bullying. Of course, with his newfound fame as a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, courtesy of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, it seems clear that Poulter’s identity will finally be self-defined rather than used as a reference point for other characters across the film industry. Poulter’s future with Marvel has yet to be announced at this point, but knowing how Disney operates, they have likely signed the Adam Warlock performer for a number of films, potentially including the upcoming Avengers outings in 2025 and 2026.
Before signing on to bring the golden man-child comic hero to life in the MCU, Will Poulter held over two dozen IMDb credits for his work in films such as The Maze Runner, The Revenant, and Midsommar. The star’s next project, the Daniel Minahan-directed On Swift Horses, is currently in post-production, expected to arrive sometime this year, and stars Poulter alongside Euphoria‘s Jacob Elordi.
With early reviews of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 praising the film for its excellent performances and powerful return to form for the franchise, it seems clear that we’ll be seeing a lot more of Will Poulter in the next several years. Let’s hope the next time somebody bumps into him while exiting a Los Angeles restroom, they don’t dare ask, “Hey, aren’t you the garbage man in the background of Toy Story 3?”
