Will Forte Reveals Coyote Vs Acme Plot Details
Will Forte reveals that Coyote vs Acme will include many classic Warner Bros. cartoon characters and John Cena will play the CEO of Acme.
We’ve known for almost a decade about an upcoming Acme-themed live-action/animation hybrid. We know that this film, which will star SNL alum Will Forte, will be titled Coyote vs. Acme. Now, Will Forte has spoken to Collider about the upcoming film, and he’s revealed some details about the plot. According to Will Forte, Coyote vs. Acme will feature a whole slew of Warner Bros. animated characters, much like how Who Framed Roger Rabbit made use of iconic cartoon stars to flesh out its cast. He also revealed details about John Cena’s role — Forte’s former boss who has risen up the ranks of Acme to become CEO.
Before his interview, all we knew was that Will Forte would star as a lawyer in Coyote vs. Acme, trying to claim damages for the animated canine due to the products’ repeated failures. We also knew that Cena will represent Acme as the opposing counsel, with Forte and Cena butting heads comedically throughout the film.
Will Forte also gave some insight into the process of acting in Coyote vs. Acme. He revealed that he has to act as a movie tennis ball on-set, which will be replaced with the iconic animated Coyote in post-production. He says he’s having a blast making the film, and he’s excited to see how the movie looks once everything is said and done.
While Will Forte might be the lead protagonist, there’s no doubt that John Cena’s role will draw many people to the movie. The WWE superstar has been making headway in the movie industry lately, with parts in Fast and Furious films and The Suicide Squad, along with the conspiracy thriller The Independent. He’s also the star of the Peacemaker TV series.
Will Forte’s Coyote vs. Acme is just the latest live-action/animated hybrid film to be made in recent years. The style is making an unexpected comeback, with films like Sonic the Hedgehog, Disenchanted, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, and Space Jam: A New Legacy all being released since 2020. Avatar: The Way of Water could also be considered a live-action/animation hybrid, though it doesn’t exactly fit the same thematic tone as the other movies.
Will Forte has plenty of other projects underway besides Coyote vs. Acme. He recently was featured in the comedy sci-fi film Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out, and he’s providing voices for the animated shows HouseBroken and The Great North. He also has six other projects underway, including MacGruber 2, Expiration Date, and Sausage Party: Foodtopia.
John Cena is just as busy as Will Forte, with seven other projects underway besides Coyote vs. Acme. Along with voicing himself in an upcoming WWE video game, he will be starring in the action thriller Snafu, the comedy Honeymoon Friends, The action comedy Freelance, the thriller The Janson Directive, the comedy Ricky Stanicky, and Guy Ritchie spy film Argylle.
You can see both John Cena and Will Forte when Coyote vs. Acme releases sometime this year.
