Everything’s coming up roses for What We Do in the Shadows star Harvey Guillén. The 31 year-old California native has been gathering up roles in Hollywood left and right and recently, Deadline announced the actor’s next part would be in HBO Max’s Harley Quinn. An animated series, the show was recently picked up by the network where it will move for its third season following a two season run on the streaming platform, DC Universe.
Harvey Guillén will be coming onto the scene as the voice of Nightwing. If you’re not immediately recognizing that character’s name, you may better know him as Boy Wonder, Robin, or, much to his chagrin, Batman’s sidekick. Initially holding a storyline as Robin in the Batman comics, his origin story tells the tale of an orphan named Dick Grayson who teams up with the caped crusader to fight all of the baddies Gotham can throw at them. Eventually, Robin steps out from behind Batman’s cape and strikes out on his own, reinventing himself as Nightwing.
Joining an already stacked lineup of vocal talent, Harvey Guillén will be a wonderful addition to the cast. He’ll be joining the likes of Kaley Cuoco, Lake Bell, Alan Tudyk, Tony Hale, Ron Funches, Jason Alexander, and J.B. Smoove. The series follows the wild and psychotic adventures of its titular character, Harley Quinn (Cuoco) as she cuts ties with her now ex-boyfriend the Joker (Tudyk), and restarts with Poison Ivy (Bell) by her side. Although HBO Max has picked up the series, details surrounding its premiere are currently being kept under wraps.
As we mentioned at the top, Harvey Guillén has been in heavy demand recently. Along with his voice acting gig in Harley Quinn, the actor has nabbed roles in several other highly anticipated films. Keeping things in the DC Universe, Guillén was announced to be starring in the comic book-based film, Blue Beetle. Although his character has yet to be revealed, we do know that Guillén will take on a starring role opposite Xolo Maridueña, who has been cast as the titular character. On the voiceover side of things, Guillén was announced to be featured in the upcoming sequel to the hit film, Puss In Boots, which will be titled, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish. The DreamWorks Animation film will also include the likes of Salma Hayek Pinault and Antonio Banderas, both of whom starred in the first film. Along with these new projects, Guillén recently called it wraps on filming for I’m Totally Fine, a film that saw him reuniting with What We Do in the Shadows producer, Kyle Newacheck. The sci-fi dramedy stars Jillian Bell (Brittany Runs a Marathon) and Natalie Morales (The Little Things) and tells the tale of a woman named Vanessa (Bell) who is reeling from the death of her close friend (Morales). After setting out on a trip to reset her brain and begin the grieving process, things take a bizarre, unforeseen turn for Vanessa.
On top of everything else, Harvey Guillén is still holding down his role in the vampirific FX series, What We Do in the Shadows. His character, Guillermo De La Cruz, just had the shock of his life when he found out he was a descendent of the revered vampire slayer, Van Helsing. With such a loaded slate of projects in his future, Guillén is set to be very busy over the upcoming year.
