The Best Comedy In Decades Canceled, Final Season Announced
It’s a sad day for all of those familiars who have tuned in season after season to keep up with the hijinks at the vampire residence in Staten Island as What We Do in the Shadows will officially be ending after its upcoming sixth season.
What We Do In The Shadows Ending
The show hasn’t stopped gathering an audience since its first season aired in 2019, so it’s likely that the network, FX, felt it was time to add something new to its docket.
The series will be sorely missed by its dedicated fandom who have loved watching the immortal family-by-choice group over the last several years.
Three Vampires
What We Do in the Shadows follows three vampires, Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Nandor (Kayvan Novak), and Laszlo (Matt Berry), an energy vampire named Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch), and Nandor’s familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) at their home in Staten Island.
Over the years, the immortal beings have gotten themselves in and out of trouble, become the leaders of the Vampiric Council, and have faced their share of personal differences, always coming out stronger than ever.
Guillermo’s Strange Transition
While most episodes follow different plots, there’s typically been an overarching storyline with last season’s being Guillermo’s strange transition into a vampire.
Since meeting the character back in Season 1 of What We Do in the Shadows, Guillermo has always wanted to be a member of the undead but his master, Nandor, would never grant him his wish.
Season 5 saw Guillermo go outside his coven and get turned by a friend, but, when the transformation didn’t take hold, he turned to Laszlo for help with the pair running a series of very entertaining and informative tests.
Wrapping Up The Series
Guillermo’s determination to become a vampire was one of the driving forces of What We Do in the Shadows which is why it’s easier to see why the network is wrapping it up with the sixth season.
In the Season 5 finale, Guillermo decided he didn’t want to become a bloodsucker after all, putting the nail in the coffin of that storyline.
It’s unclear what Season 6 will be about but we’re certain that there will be plenty of laughs and inappropriate humor on the way.
Taika Waititi
Created by Jemaine Clement, What We Do in the Shadows is an off-shoot of the 2014 mockumentary film of the same name that Clement created alongside Taika Waititi.
Both men were involved with the show’s production behind and in front of the camera, with each appearing in a cameo capacity throughout the last few seasons.
The news of What We Do in the Shadows wrapping after Season 6 is a double whammy for Waititi whose other co-created FX series, Reservation Dogs, just bowed out following a very successful three-season run.
What We Do in the Shadows Ending
Saying goodbye is never easy and it is especially so for our favorite group of crass vampires on What We Do in the Shadows – after all, they were supposed to live forever, right?
The last few seasons have featured a slew of fun cameos from the likes of Tilda Swinton, Mark Hamill, Dave Bautista, and more, so we’re expecting the creative team to really go crazy on the final installment. Catch up with the first five seasons now streaming on Hulu.
