Weird Al Says A Netflix Serial Killer Series Is About Him?
Weird Al Yankovic jokes that a clip from Netflix's new Dahmer series is direct reference to his Michael Jackson parody "Eat It."
Weird Al Yankovic seems to think that the new Netflix miniseries, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, is another biographical film about him. According to ScreenRant, he shared a short clip to Twitter, theorizing the new series is yet another feature about his life. The short snippet has Evan Peters’ Dahmer telling a character to “eat it,” which Yankovic jokes is a reference to his 1984 parody of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” that’s titled “Eat It.”
Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story premiered September 21st and stars Peters as the infamous serial killer. The series dropped just weeks after the world premiere of the actual biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. In his Twitter post, the musician jokingly wrote, “Wait, they’re already making ANOTHER Weird Al biopic??”
Having made a successful career for himself creating parodies of popular songs by some of the world’s biggest musicians, his recent tease about the new Dahmer series being about him is the kind of trademark humor we’ve come to expect from Weird Al. In the actual biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, Daniel Radcliffe portrays the musician, with the film making a parody of Yankovic’s life, from his meteoric rise to fame with early hits like “Eat It” to his so-called “torrid love affairs” and “famously depraved” lifestyle. The feature is considered a light-hearted comedy, and Weird Al joked that Dahmer looked like a much darker take on his life.
Weird Al Yankovic was born October 23, 1959, in Downey, California and took an interest in music early on in his life. Although he’s made original recordings, he became famous for creating parodies of hit tracks that frequently landed him various charts. Some of the musician’s biggest singles include “White & Nerdy,” which is a spoof of “Ridin’” by rapper Chamillionaire, and “Eat It,” which peaked at number twelve on the Billboard Hot 100.
Considering Yankovic made a name for himself parodying the work of other artists, it should come as no surprise that his biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic serves as a satire of biopics. The upcoming feature is directed by Eric Appel from a script he and Weird Al collaborated on. The film premiered on September 8th, 2022 at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Daniel Radcliffe was reportedly hand-picked by Weird Al to portray him in the biopic. The Harry Potter star believes he was selected after the musician witnessed him sing satirist Tom Lehrer’s song “The Elements” on The Graham Norton Show back in 2010. The track is a novelty song that lists most of the elements from the periodic table.
In addition to Radcliffe, the forthcoming Weird Al biographical picture features several other high-profile stars. Quinta Brunson plays Oprah Winfrey, Evan Rachel Wood portrays Madonna, Rainn Wilson is in the role of Dr. Demento, and Julianne Nicholson plays Mary Yankovic. Other stars include Spencer Treat Clark, Will Forte, Thomas Lennon, David Bloom, and James Preston Rogers.
Weird: The Al Yankovic is set to release on November 4th, 2022, on The Roku Channel. As Weird Al joked, however, you can catch a darker biopic about him in the form of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which is currently streaming on Netflix. The miniseries stars Evan Peters, Richard Jenkins, Molly Ringwald, and Niecy Nash.
