Wednesday Spinoff In The Works And Is Not What We Expected At All
With filming for the second season of Netflix’s Wednesday eyeing a start-up in the next few months, there’s even more exciting news on the way from the world of the Addams family. According to Bloomberg, the streamer has greenlit a project that would act as a spin-off that will follow Fred Armisen’s character, Uncle Fester.
As of right now, no further plot details have been released surrounding the offshoot, but with Armisen’s heavy background in comedy projects, the series will likely put a darkly comedic twist on the character known for his wild antics.
Uncle Fester Spin-Off Coming To Netflix
With names like Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Luis Guzmán attached to play the main members of the spooky scary family on Wednesday, audiences were thrilled to learn that Portlandia star, Armisen, would step into the role of Uncle Fester.
The series introduced the legend of Armisen’s character in the first episode when Ortega’s titular character revealed that she had learned how to fight from her uncle who mastered his skills while imprisoned in a Tibetan Monastery for five years. The mention served as an introduction to the character who we would meet later in all of his bald glory.
Still In Early Stages
The news of Netflix’s decision to push forward with a Wednesday spin-off should come as a surprise to no one, as the series raked in huge numbers for the platform. However, the project is in such early stages that even the writers haven’t been hired, and no casting announcements made.
But, Amazon, the studio that owns the rights to The Addams Family, is fully onboard, making it an all but sure thing for everyone’s favorite wacky uncle to receive his own spin-off.
Wednesday Season 2
As for Season 2 of Wednesday, filming is expected to begin in Romania sometime this coming spring. Tim Burton and Jenna Ortega recently wrapped production on Beetlejuice 2, so the pair are gearing up to hop onto their next collaboration. Along with starring in the sophomore installment of Wednesday, Jenna Ortega is also expected to lend more of her vision and voice behind the camera.
More Addams Family Members Coming In Season 2?
There are a lot of ways that Season 2 of Wednesday could go as the first batch of episodes put the Addams family daughter on her own at Gomez (Guzmán) and Morticia’s (Zeta-Jones) alma mater, Nevermore Academy.
There, audiences met a slew of new faces separate from the ones we’ve come to know and love through the decades of shows and films that spawned from Charles Addams’s original New Yorker cartoons. It’s been teased that Season 2 will bring in yet another member of the Addams family universe, but that name has yet to be revealed.
Jenna Ortega Abandons Scream For Wednesday
Jenna Ortega faced a difficult decision just about a month ago after she was forced to choose between her role in Wednesday Season 2 and that of her ongoing role in the Scream franchise for the series’ seventh installment.
Due to scheduling conflicts, she was unable to do both and, ultimately, the actress would end up picking Wednesday, leaving Scream 7 without its two leading ladies. As of right now, no release date for Wednesday Season 2 or the Uncle Fester spin-off has been set, but stay tuned for more information.
