We Now Know If Cobra Kai Will Get A 6th Season
Netflix has announced Cobra Kai has been approved for Season 6, which will be its last.
The hit YouTube series turned Netflix phenomenon, Cobra Kai will be receiving its sixth and final season. Netflix announced the news via an epic video of the entirety of the show, which you can see below. Both William Zabka and Ralph Macchio narrate the teaser and talk about the fighting that has taken place, and the enemies and allies they have made along the way.
Cobra Kai creators, Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, called the news “bittersweet.” They also said they could continue the story “down the line” and that there are certainly plans for a spinoff in the future. We would imagine that the series ending also has a lot to do with the creative team pivoting to their new series, Obliterated.
Cobra Kai began on YouTube Red back in 2018, which had produced both the second and third seasons. However, the media company decided to stop leading the charge with the Karate Kid sequel series, leaving Netflix to buy the rights in 2020. Since then, the series has skyrocketed into one of the biggest surprises.
Cobra Kai follows the lives of Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso 30 years after the events of the 1984 All-Valley Karate Tournament. Johnny has nothing but vengeance in his mind, as he reopens the Cobra-Kai dojo, effectively reigniting his rivalry with Daniel. Daniel opens his own dojo, Miyagi-do dojo, and brings in his own students to battle in the All-Valley Karate Tournament.
The series has evolved a great deal, as Cobra Kai has brought in many of the classic villains from the Karate Kid series including John Kreese and Terry Silver. The latest season saw Terry Silver taking over the Cobra Kai dojo and implementing his more brutal tactics while Kreese remains in prison. The sixth and final season of the series is likely to see Johnny, Daniel, Terry, and their allies taking each on in fights that fans have yet to see.
An interesting note could be that we are finally going to see Hilary Swank appear, though she has mostly been coy about that happening. Hilary Swank starred in The Next Karate Kid. We are not sure if she is going to be asked to appear in Cobra Kai, but the final season would certainly be the time for her to show up.
Her involvement could be stifled by Ralph Macchio, who might see her movie as being a bit disrespectful to the franchise he helped build. Still, fans would likely love to see Hilary Swank appear in the final season of Cobra Kai. We certainly would love to see the franchise come full circle and involve her in some small way.
Netflix has announced via the epic trailer above that Cobra Kai Season 6 is “coming soon” though we are not sure how soon that might be. The series has not yet entered production, so it might be some time before we see the final epic battles take place. Should the series start filming in the next couple of months, we might see the final season air in early 2024.
