Let’s call the announcement of Warrior Nun season 2 as one of those surprises.

These days, getting Netflix to renew a series is akin to COVID-19 testing. You wait and wait and wait and wait and then it’s either good news or bad. Of course, if you pay (or you’re a professional athlete), these results can come fast; and sometimes Netflix will surprise. Not often though. Let’s call the announcement of Warrior Nun season 2 as one of those surprises.
Yes, there were early rumblings after the first season dropped that Warrior Nun season 2 was happening. But Netflix, as it is notoriously known to do, played the waiting game before making it official. Why they continue to do this is beyond us, but it’s a habit they need to break.
So, without further ado, here is their official announcement via Netflix’s Twitter feed. “Just in case you needed a lil sunbeam of positivity in your day: watch the Warrior Nun cast get the news that they’ve been renewed for a second season.”
WARRIOR NUN ORIGINS
Perhaps you don’t know what a Warrior Nun is? Well, in this instance, she is a young lady of 19-years old who wakes up in the morgue, finding herself with a new lease on life. Oh, and she also has a divine artifact implanted in her back.
She quickly finds out that she is now a large part of the ancient Order of the Cruciform Sword. She also finds out that she has been tasked to fight the demons who reside on Earth. There are also powerful forces of both good and evil, heaven and hell, who would love nothing more than to find her and control her. The TV series comes from the comic book series Warrior Nun Areala, created by Ben Dunn.
THE CAST OF WARRIOR NUN SEASON 2
Alba Baptista stars as Ava, the Warrior Nun, and will be back in action for season 2.
Also coming back for Warrior Nun season 2 is Toya Turner, who plays Shotgun Mary. Yes, her character very much reflects her name.
Also expect Thekla Reuten as Jillian Salvius, Lorena Andrea as Sister Lilith, Kristina Tonteri-Young as Sister Beatrice, Tristan Ulloa as Father Vincent, and Sylvia De Fanti as Mother Superion to return to their respective roles.
Also expect to see more of Adriel, played by William Miller. In the season one finale, it was Adriel who was found out to be the bad guy behind it all, so moving forward, he is sure to get some face time in Warrior Nun season 2.
THE PLOT OF WARRIOR NUN SEASON 2
In fact, Baptista told Refinery 29 about Adriel and what season 2 may hold, “The writers have it all thought out for an eventual season 2,” she said. “I love Adriel’s character. I think he’s so dense and he has a lot of layers to his story, which we will discover further on.” And of Warrior Nun season 2, “[There’s] going to be a big, big reveal for an eventual season 2,” she added. “It was well-thought-out. It wasn’t just an accident. It’s another plot twist for the spectators to guess on for another year. They’ll have to wait for another season.”
Showrunner Simon Berry is not only excited about Warrior Nun season 2 but if he has his way, there is going to be plenty more Nun’ing going on. He told Inverse, “Anything between five and seven seasons would be lovely.” But the showrunner wasn’t done dropping hints on the future by what they didn’t show in the past.
He explained to Looper, “we were holding back so many secrets in a way in season one. The fact that we now have the cat is out of the bag, so to speak, in terms of the mythology of the show. I think it’ll be really exciting to take that journey and unpack what we’ve revealed.”
So, plans are in place for Warrior Nun season 2 and since it looks like, if Netflix is willing, they could go on for quite a few more years. No doubt Netflix will take their wait and see approach.
WHEN YOU CAN START BINGING
As with everything else Hollywood related, it all comes down to the pandemic. Things are slowly beginning to open on production sets, so once Warrior Nun season 2 is open for shooting, a release date will follow. Right now, the best that can be done is “sometime in 2021.”
