Warner Bros. Cancels Another Finished Movie From Fan-Favorite Creator

Fixed, an R-rated animated comedy made by Genndy Tartakovsky has been canceled by Warner Bros. after the production of the animated film has been completed. However, the fans of the Hotel Transylvania director’s work might have a chance to see the animated movie if Sony manages to find a buyer among the streamers and distributors. Has anyone said “Netflix?”

Fixed, which follows the narrative of a bulldog enjoying his last night before getting neutered, has been picked up by Warner Bros before the merger that took place in 2022—the one that made David Zaslav the head of Warner Bros. Discovery.

WB had planned for the movie to initially arrive on its in-house streaming network, which was then known as HBO Max, but apparently, those plans never came to fruition. Thus, Warner Bros decided to give the movie back to Sony, who co-produced it with New Line and pull back from distributing the piece.

Tartakovsky’s Other Work

Sony and New Line are now shopping for streamers and distributors in hopes that someone will distribute Fixed and bring the promised narrative to the audiences. Allow us to remind you that Genndy Tartakovsky made the acclaimed Hotel Transylvania movie series, as well as Primal: Tales of Savagery, all of which showcased his unique style and made him a favorite among the audiences.

On the other hand, Fixed could very well end up like the previously announced Batgirl, which was in the late stages of post-production when it was canceled by Warner Bros.

The Cast

For those who aren’t familiar with the project, Fixed features voice talents of Idris Elba, Adam DeVine, Fred Armisen, Kathryn Han, Beck Bennett, and Bobby Moynihan, with DeVine voicing the film’s protagonist.

The film’s cancellation follows Warner Bros.’s decision to shelf the movie, which isn’t all that surprising; the giant has struggled financially for quite some time now, which has led to other cancelations as well, including Coyote vs. Acme, a John Cena and Will Forte-starring live-action and CGI hybrid that centered on Wile E. Coyote.

Looking For Another Way To Release

The canceled Batgirl

Sadly, next to the aforementioned Batgirl and Coyote vs. Acme, it would seem that Fixed won’t see the light of day either unless Sony pulls a white rabbit out of the hat, simply because (among other things) Warner Bros’ streaming service reported a loss of over $100 million in this year’s second quarter.

This is a bit disheartening, considering that Genndy Tartakovsky has a really long history with WB, having worked with the company on Dexter’s Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls. The director also collaborates closely with Sony through Hotel Transylvania.

Zaslav Isn’t Interested In Animation

Onomatopeia

It’s becoming quite clear that David Zaslav and Warner Bros. don’t care about animation anymore. Not only did they remove several animated releases from their release slate, such as Fixed, but they also removed plenty of Cartoon Network content from Max as cost-cutting measures following the devaluation of the company’s stock.

Sure, one could argue that they’ve given us Batman: Caped Crusader, but that’s just one thing that we’ve received from the sea of content that was promised to us.
