See The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan In Catwoman: Hunted
See Lauren Cohan in Catwoman: Hunted!
You can’t hunt zombies or, alternatively, be hunted by them all the time. So Lauren Cohan — better known as Maggie by fans of The Walking Dead — is taking a break from dealing with the undead to go after some prey a little more lively. She’ll be playing agent Julia Pennyworth in the upcoming animated film Catwoman: Hunted, and now we have the first look at her character thanks to social media.
The tweet comes courtesy of Watchtower Database, which gives us a look at Lauren Cohan at the mic doing the actual voice work for her character, and two more images. One shot gives us our first look at Julia Pennyworth, standing over the unconscious body of Black Mask (voiced by Jonathan Banks, aka Mike of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul). Below that is a shot of King Faraday (Jonathan Frakes, Star Trek: The Next Generation). You can see the tweet from Watchtower Database below.
In case you’re wondering, yes — Julia Pennyworth is related to Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s butler. Introduced in 2014’s Batman #28, Julia is Alfred’s daughter. Fans of The CW’s Batwoman will remember Christina Wolfe played the character on the series.
While the shot of King Faraday in the tweet above appears in the Catwoman: Hunted trailer that premiered in October, the shot of Lauren Cohan as Julia Pennyworth is the first we’ve seen of her character. It isn’t yet clear exactly what role she’ll play in the story, though considering how she’s been portrayed as working for international agencies like Interpol in the past, she’ll likely have something to do with King Faraday. You can see the trailer below.
Catwoman: Hunted will find the eponymous cat burglar — voiced by Elizabeth Gillies (Dynasty) — in the crosshairs of both some of the world’s most powerful villains and its most far-reaching international agencies after stealing a priceless jewel. Once the crime syndicate run by the Wonder Woman villain Barbara Minerva (voiced by Kirby Howell-Baptiste, The Good Place) targets Catwoman, the Gotham anti-hero cuts a deal with King Faraday to keep her freedom, which is likely where Lauren Cohan’s Julia Pennyworth comes in. She also teams up with Gotham’s Batwoman (voiced Stephanie Beatriz, Brooklyn Nine-Nine).
Along with Lauren Cohan and the other talent already mentioned, Catwoman: Hunted features a long list of beloved actors giving voice to DC villains. There’s Keith David (They Live) as Tobias Whale of Black Lightning fame, Kelly Hu (The Scorpion King) as Cheshire, Jacqueline Obradors (NYPD Blue) as the long-lived La Dama, Ron Yuan (Mulan 2020) as Dr. Tzin, Steve Blum (Star Wars: Rebels) as the monstrous Solomon Grundy, Zehra Fazal (Lucifer) as Talia al Ghul and Nosferata, and Andrew Kishino (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) as Mr. Yakuza. Also, while he’s already voicing King Faraday, Jonathan Frakes will also play Intergang’s Boss Moxie.
Catwoman: Hunted is directed by Shinsuke Terasawa (The Tower of DRUAGA: The Aegis of URUK) and written by Greg Weisman (Young Justice). The film will release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and digitally Tuesday, February 8, 2022. There is no official word on if/when it will be made available for streaming on HBO Max.
