There’s no age at which you should feel bad for celebrating yourself and the body you call home. Likewise, there’s no time in life when it’s too late to make changes to your health-based routine and mold your body into something new. And that’s exactly what Vincent D’Onofrio did when he headed to Twitter to celebrate his muscle-bound journey of getting back to the gym. The picture in question reveals the actor, mid workout, clad in all black, sitting on an exercise ball. A white towel rests on his knee as he stares into the mirror and snaps a gym selfie which he captioned, “63 but who’s counting,” celebrating the fact that at what many consider to be an “older” age, he’s just as bulky as ever.
And while this photo may seem like an act of self-love, fans of the Netflix series, Daredevil are thinking that it’s more than just that. The rumor mill is now in full churn as sleuths and audiences of the show are hoping this points to Vincent D’Onofrio’s return as Daredevil’s bulked-up bad guy, Kingpin. And to be honest, this speculation seems like it might actually be grounded in truth. While the three-season running Daredevil bowed out on Netflix back in 2018, Marvel has been slowly bringing those characters back in on other MCU productions.
Take Spider-Man: No Way Home for example. In it, we see a brief scene in which Matt Murdock aka Daredevil (Charlie Cox), gives Tom Holland’s Peter Parker a little legal advice. Although it’s just a cameo, it certainly cemented the belief for fans that Cox would be making his way back to the MCU during their Phase 4 movements – specifically in a Disney+ Daredevil series that’s already been confirmed. Meanwhile, Vincent D’Onofrio has also tackled the role of Kingpin on screen in the Disney+ series, Hawkeye. He appeared in the final few episodes of the show, revealing that Kingpin was behind all the mayhem that faced the heroes during the premiere season. With the recent announcement that Cox would in fact be returning to play the titular character in Daredevil, it would be wild if Marvel didn’t bring D’Onofrio back on as well.
Vincent D’Onofrio first landed the role of ultra-bad guy Kingpin during Marvel’s first semi-successful television takeover. In those days, Netflix acquired shows such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Luke Cage, and others to add to their repertoire. The deal was penned way back when Jeph Loeb handled distribution before Marvel big wig Kevin Feige took over the whole shebang. While the shows performed well to Marvel fans, they didn’t do a great job in bringing non-followers into the fold.
With Disney now taking over the stories of the Marvel Universe, things are changing for the comics turned on-screen heroes. The past few years have been massively successful with shows such as WandaVision and Moon Knight crushing ratings everywhere. If Vincent D’Onofrio is in fact chomping down on protein bars and lifting weights to enter back into the fold, not only will fans be rejoicing, but so will the actor’s wallet as the reboot of Daredevil is bound to be a hit.
