Vin Diesel’s Best Sequel Is Dominating On Streaming
Vin Diesel's cult-hit Riddick, the long-in-development follow-up to Chronicles of Riddick, is in the top ten on Netflix.
Vin Diesel has starred in plenty of sequels, namely in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Fast & Furious franchises. But perhaps his best sequel is his most recent film in the Chronicles of Riddick franchise. According to FlixPatrol, 2013’s Riddick is now streaming at #5 on Netflix.
Riddick is the third film in the trilogy and takes place after Vin Diesel‘s Riddick is left for dead on a planet. The film follows Riddick as he becomes more powerful, fighting alien predators and facing off against mercenaries who come to the planet to kill him. David Twohy directs the film, and the rest of the cast includes Karl Urban, Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Molla, Dave Bautista, Bokeem Woodbine, Nolan Gerard Funk, and Noah Danby.
The Riddick franchise can be pretty hit-or-miss for some people — you either like the franchise, or you think it’s B-movie trash. If you’re someone who loves the Chronicles of Riddick franchise, then Riddick definitely won’t let you down. Vin Diesel brings his action hero best to the role, which is enjoyable enough to make the film worth checking out.
Vin Diesel’s breakout role was in the Riddick franchise, in the first film in the trilogy, Pitch Black. Pitch Black is a cult classic sci-fi film with survivors of a crashed ship trying to survive on a dark planet filled with deadly nocturnal predators. He quickly followed up Pitch Black with the first Fast & Furious film the following year.
Vin Diesel would bring back the Riddick role in The Chronicles of Riddick four years later, which ended up being the most successful film in the franchise. There is also a fourth film in the franchise that has been in the works since 2014, titled Furya. There have been numerous updates from both Diesel and Twohy since they announced Universal’s intent to make a fourth movie.
The most recent update on Riddick 4: Furya was in May when Vin Diesel teased a storyboard image on his Instagram for the film. Twohy and Diesel have confirmed that there is a completed screenplay for the movie. It seems like the fourth film is well on its way to getting made, so now would be a great time to check out Riddick on Netflix.
If the Chronicles of Riddick franchise isn’t your thing, we’ll get to see two of Vin Diesel’s biggest franchises returning to screens this year. Diesel will return as Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Dominic Toretto in Fast X in 2023. Both of the franchises are coming to an end, so it looks like Diesel is wrapping up his major franchises as well.
While there may be more movies with the Guardians after Vol. 3, it’s James Gunn’s final movie, and the team won’t be the same. So, that may or may not mean we can expect to see Vin Diesel return to the MCU after this film. As for Fast X, the film is set to be the first of a two-part finale for the Fast & Furious franchise.
