On November 30, 2013, Paul Walker — along with his friend and financial adviser Roger Rodas — died in a horrible car crash. The Fast and Furious star was loved not only by his fans, but by his costar Vin Diesel. In memory of his dear friend’s passing, Diesel posted a loving message to Walker on social media that’s sure to have many of his followers tearing up.
The photo Vin Diesel posted on Instagram yesterday is not — as you might understandably expect — of Diesel and Walker, but instead features Diesel’s daughter Hania Riley and Walker’s daughter Meadow on the day of the latter’s wedding. Diesel includes a lengthy message in the caption, directly addressing his late friend. He recalls that while filming the fourth Fast & Furious movie, Diesel was anxious about his daughter’s impending birth. He remembers the advice Walker gave him, and points out how in October, the daughter who was born that day, served as the Maid of Honor for Walker’s daughter’s wedding. It’s best to read it all in Diesel’s words, which wait below.
Vin Diesel was not the only one to remember Paul Walker on the eighth anniversary of his death. His daughter posted a shorter message to her father, though no less touching for its brevity. The accompanying photo is of Paul Walker holding and kissing his baby daughter on the cheek. You can see the post below.
Vin Diesel’s friend Paul Walker died in a car crash at the age of 40. The Porsche was believed to have been driven by Walker’s friend Roger Rodas who, according to CNN, was a race car driver, philanthropist, and well respected financial adviser. As reported by The Guardian, both men were in the car when it crashed at speeds of approximately 100 mph. The car burst into flames and both Walker and Rodas were dead by the time authorities arrived.
Vin Diesel has found many ways to honor Walker in the years since. His Fast & Furious character, Brian O’Conner, lives on in the narrative. Brian is said to have retired and audiences continue to get updates about his whereabouts occasionally in the films. When Diesel’s second daughter was born in 2015, the actor and his longtime girlfriend Paloma Jiménez named her Pauline in honor of Walker.
Staying true to his signature character’s mantra of “family,” Vin Diesel remains an active part in the life of Walker’s daughter Meadow. In Paul Walker’s absence, Diesel walked her down the aisle in October when she was married to Louis Thornton-Allan. There are also rumors that Meadow Walker will join the Fast & Furious ensemble for its final film. Speaking to ET in October, Ludacris said he couldn’t “confirm or deny” the casting, but called Meadow “a phenomenal person” and said he would “love to see” her come on board.
Fast & Furious 10 is scheduled to release in 2023, and Vin Diesel is hoping to get another one of his “family” back into the fold. In early November, Diesel posted a public plea on Instagram to Dwayne Johnson, insisting he needed to come back for the final film in spite of their public feud. He invoked his late friend’s name in the message, telling Johnson, “I told you years ago that I was going to fulfill my promise to Pablo.” Time will tell if The Rock agrees to return.
