Vin Diesel has enjoyed prominent roles in a number of high-profile franchises, including the Fast and the Furious, Riddick, and Marvel Cinematic Universe properties. Now, the popular actor could be taking on another prominent role in Marvel’s shared universe, one that would require a lot of glowering but not a ton of talking.

According to Geekosity, Vin Diesel is Marvel’s top pick for the role of Black Bolt in an Inhumans reboot. This would obviously necessitate either pulling double-duty as both the voice of Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Bolt or picking one over the other. As exciting as this is, it is a good idea to take this as a rumor for now, especially because Marvel has yet to confirm or even really say anything about Diesel becoming Black Bolt.

If you’re a casual Marvel fan and the word Inhumans rings a faint bell, it is because there was a short-lived Inhumans series on ABC that was critically panned and quickly cancelled. It starred airing in 2017 but was axed by the network not too much later. Instead of Vin Diesel, Anson Mount portrayed Black Bolt in that ill-fated interpretation of the comic series.

In other Marvel news, Tom Holland has just shot down the popular rumor that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire will be appearing as former Spider-Men in the upcoming Far From Home sequel. Nothing is set in stone until the movie releases, and Tom Holland could absolutely be lying, but the point is that these rumors are just rumors until Marvel steps up to confirm them.

Black Bolt was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and first appeared in Fantastic Four #45. The ruler of the Inhumans, Black Bolt was able to use his voice as an incredibly powerful and unimaginably dangerous weapon. Because of this, he rarely spoke. He has become one of Marvel’s most fearsome characters, one worthy of respect and admiration.

It will be really interesting to see how Black Bolt fits into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ever-expanding narrative. It is a wild time to be a Marvel fan, especially with genre-defying series such as WandaVision currently dominating the conversation. Vin Diesel would absolutely kill this role, mainly because we can’t prove that his voice isn’t deadly already (totally kidding, but you get my point here).

If Vin Diesel is indeed playing Black Bolt, it will be a long time before we get any official word. The film, if it even ends up happening, is still a distant project with little known or said about it. Hopefully, it ends up being as good as many of Marvel’s other risky properties. But hey, if Kevin Feige can sell us the Guardians of the Galaxy, you can bet that he can sell us the Inhumans. Piece of cake for that guy.

If you are itching to see more of Vin Diesel sooner rather than later, keep an eye out for the absurd-looking Fast 9, which is currently scheduled for release on May 28, 2021. Who knows if that release date will stand, though?
