Move over Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen! There’s a new contender for Cutest Famous Buddies In Hollywood and they’ve got nothing to do with the X-Men. Some images were caught of Vin Diesel and Helen Mirren from the set of Fast X in Rome, including a snap of Diesel giving his good friend and co-star a kiss.

The shots come from Just Jared, including a whole series of Vin Diesel and Helen Mirren on a rooftop. It isn’t clear if the peck on the cheek is meant to be part of the scene or was made during a break in filming. The actors have developed an unexpected friendship behind the scenes, so the latter is certainly believable. You can see the shot of Diesel kissing Mirren below.

Of course, there’s a good chance Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto is kissing Helen Mirren’s Queenie as part of the scene. In response to her appearance in 2021’s F9: The Fast Saga, there was a strong fan reaction to the notion that Mirren and Diesel should’ve shared a kiss, albeit one more romantic than the one on the Rome rooftop. In response, Mirren said “a very chaste kiss would be nice,” which is precisely what Diesel appears to be giving her in the photo above.

Vin Diesel certainly seems to enjoy feeding the fan shipping. On Tuesday he posted a shot of himself with Mirren hanging out in Rome, with Diesel’s arm around the actress’ shoulders. He captioned the photo “When in Rome…” You can see that shot below.

Helen Mirren is not the first person you’d guess would agree to be a part of the Fast and Furious franchise. The Oscar winner is the sort you would usually expect in more dramatic fare like 2006’s The Queen. But the truth is Mirren didn’t need to agree to join the Fast and Furious because she begged Vin Diesel for the chance. Back in February Mirren admitted she was “shameless” in her pleas to Diesel to be in the Fast and Furious movies. “I didn’t ask, I begged!” Mirren said. “I’d just never done anything like that before — one of those big, big movies,” Mirren explained. “And, in my vanity, I just loved driving and really wanted to do my own driving in a fast car.”

As the saying goes, “ask and ye shall receive,” and Mirren wasn’t the only one lucky enough to find out the truth of that. Back in February, Captain Marvel star Brie Larson said in an Uproxx interview that she had a dream of joining the Fast and Furious franchise. Two months later came the news that Vin Diesel had been listening — Brie Larson was tapped to star in Fast X though the nature of her role hasn’t been disclosed yet.

Mirren and Larson are only the beginning of Fast X‘s ensemble cast. Along with the franchise’s regulars, Vin Diesel has brought on board Jason Momoa and Daniela Melchior, along with convincing Charlize Theron to return once more. In fact there are unconfirmed reports that the large cast could be one of the stresses that broke the camel’s back for director Justin Lin, who left the project and was replaced by Louis Leterrier. The cast salaries have reportedly inflated the budget to make it one of the most expensive films ever made, likely exceeding $300 million.
