After some shakeups in the creative team, it looks like Fast X is speeding forward. Vin Diesel recently took to Instagram to welcome one of the newest stars to the franchise, Daniela Melchior. Check out the Instagram post below:

In the post, Vin Diesel mentions the iconic originals and the incredible new members of the Fast and Furious family. There will be a ton of originals coming back, so he’s spot on with that comment. Of course, Diesel himself will be back, as will Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Michael Rooker, and Charlize Theron. Along with Daniela Melchior, new cast members include Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, Rita Moreno, and Alan Ritchson.

While we know who Vin Diesel and the rest of the returning stars will be playing, Daniela Melchior’s role is yet to be revealed. Judging by the fact she and Diesel are hugging in the Instagram post, it seems like it’s a safe bet that she’ll be on the side of the good guys. It seems like Diesel’s character might even be some sort of father figure for her. After working in Portuguese television and films for years, Melchior made her Hollywood debut as Ratcatcher 2 in The Suicide Squad. Brie Larson and Alan Ritchson’s roles are also shrouded in mystery at this point, so it will be interesting to see who they’ll be playing in this final series of Fast films. We do know that Rita Morena will be playing the grandmother of Dom, Jakob, and Mia. Also, Jason Momoa is confirmed to be playing the villain of this outing.

One member of the Fast and Furious family that won’t be returning is Justin Lin. The director directed The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, and F9, and was set to helm Fast X too. However, the director dropped out after one week of filming, though he opted to remain on as a producer instead. The new director for the film will be Louis Leterrier (The Incredible Hulk, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance). Leterrier will have to juggle a lot of plates. The film has a huge cast of actors, which is difficult enough. Another consideration is the fact that Fast X is meant to be the end of the franchise, as it was initially envisioned as a two-part finale for Vin Diesel and the rest of the cast.

Another member of the franchise that won’t be returning is Dwayne Johnson. Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson have some sort of ongoing beef, and when Diesel took to Instagram to try and get Johnson to return for the final outing, Johnson said in an interview with CNN that he supports the franchise and his castmates, but he would not be returning and that the post was an example of Diesel’s “manipulation.” Dwayne Johnson featured in the very successful spin-off of the Fast franchise with Jason Statham in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Fast X will be hitting theaters in May of 2023.
