The Worst Video Game Director Of All Time Is Bashing Borderlands

By Jason Collins | Published

What has the world come to when we have the Worst Career Achievement recipient, Uwe Boll, who came to prominence—for better or for worse—thanks to his ill-fated adaptations of video game franchises, just bashing the recently released Borderlands? “Now you wish I directed,” says Boll.

Uwe Boll Going For The Jugular On X

The German filmmaker, who helmed some of the worst-performing movies in the history of cinema, took a swing at the recently released Borderlands on X by sharing an image with the film’s devastating box office debut, stating that his movies, though rated R, made more money than Borderlands has.

For context, Borderlands only made $8.8 million in the US and Canada in its opening weekend. However, Uwe Boll wasn’t left without a response from the fans because, believe it or not, even lousy movies such as Borderlands managed to put together a semblance of a fandom.

What Exactly Are Borderlands Fans Bragging About?

One fan refuted Boll’s claim by sharing statistics—as Twitter warriors often do—claiming that at least four of his movies opened to much less compared to Borderlands, which isn’t anything the Borderlands team should write home about, considering that none of Uwe Boll’s movies performed exceptionally at the box office.

Or performed well, for that matter—in fact, they were all flops. Boll didn’t stay indebted for long, claiming that his movies have been pirated and illegally downloaded 41 billion times.

Borderland’s Current Critical Score

Though Uwe Boll didn’t provide any evidence to corroborate his claims and prove that the statement is actually factual, having someone known for directing bad movies badmouthing Borderlands only attests to the lack in quality of the said movie, especially since the majority of fans the world over share’s Uwe Boll’s opinion.

Borderlands simply didn’t fare well with either the critics or the fans and has been branded as an epic failure, with a mere 10 percent rating (as of this writing) on Rotten Tomatoes—yes, you read that barely double-digit number correctly.

Are Boll’s Comments The Deathblow To The Franchise?

Borderlands

This couldn’t have come at a worse time for the franchise since there’s plenty of excitement over the upcoming release of Borderlands 4. Though the game still hasn’t received a definitive release date, this abominable movie adaptation of Borderlands has potentially damaged the entire franchise—as if Uwe Boll’s ridiculing Borderlands movie isn’t bad enough. It only goes to say that movie trailers lie and that we shouldn’t believe the hype, regardless of the franchise a particular release belongs to.

Takes One To Know One

Borderlands

Despite offering his professional opinion and not-so-constructive criticism, Uwe Boll became known for his adaptations of gaming titles, such as BloodRayne, Postal, Far Cry, House of the Dead, and the horrible Alone in the Dark.

The latter is actually considered one of the worse movies ever made, and its 1% rating is probably due to the fact that it had a good soundtrack—apart from the end credit song, which was performed by Nightwish, which simply couldn’t compete with the music from the source material.

Whatever the case my be, Uwe Boll simply said what all of us were thinking: the Borderlands movie sucks, and it’s a complete waste of the talent involved. It’s not that it shouldn’t have been made because it should, and it did. At least now, we can show future generations of filmmakers how not to make a movie.
