See Awesome Venom Animatronic Scrapped For Spider-Man 3
A video of an unused Venom animatronic from 2007’s Spider-Man 3 has made its way online. The clip, shared by Marvel Facts on X, features a mechanical Venom head, complete with spiky teeth and a long tongue.
The Venom Head
Although the footage is only 23 seconds long, it’s enough to give fans a taste of what could have been if the prop was used in the Tobey Maguire-led film.
Spider-Man 3 continues the story of Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker as he struggles to balance his personal life with his responsibilities as Spider-Man.
Spider-Man 3
The film introduces two new villains – Flint Marko, who becomes the Sandman after a molecular accident, and Eddie Brock, a rival photographer who transforms into Venom after bonding with an alien symbiote.
Peter Parker’s life becomes more complicated as he deals with the emotional strain of his relationships, particularly with Mary Jane Watson, and faces internal struggles when the Venom symbiote enhances his powers and darker impulses.
While the animatronic Venom didn’t appear in Spider-Man 3, the character eventually got his own film in 2018 featuring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom.
The Venom Movies
Venom follows the story of Eddie Brock, a journalist who becomes the host for an alien symbiote called Venom. The symbiote grants Eddie superhuman abilities but also has a mind of its own.
Together, Eddie and Venom must navigate their newfound partnership while facing a powerful and corrupt corporation, Life Foundation, led by Carlton Drake, which is experimenting with the symbiotes.
Tom Hardy As Venom
The movie received mixed reviews from critics who slammed its pacing, plot, and script. Fortunately, the reception was more positive among audiences.
Tom Hardy’s performance received a mixed response from everyone. Some enjoyed the humor and the dynamic between Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote, while others found it slightly over-the-top.
Despite the mixed critical reviews, Venom was a commercial success, earning over $856 million worldwide. The success of the first film led to the development of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which was released in 2021.
The sequel continues the story of Eddie Brock and Venom as they face Cletus Kasady, a deranged serial killer who becomes the host for another symbiote known as Carnage.
The Next Venom Movie
The third movie in the Venom franchise remains untitled but promises an exhilarating continuation of the story. Produced by Columbia Pictures and distributed by Sony Pictures, the movie is the sixth installment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
The film is a collaborative effort, with Kelly Marcel making her directorial debut and Tom Hardy stepping in as one of the writers.
Strikes Delays
Development on Venom 3 officially began in December 2021, after the release of the second film. By June 2022, Marcel and Hardy were deep into the scriptwriting process.
While filming kicked off in late June 2023 in Spain, the production faced a temporary hiatus the following month due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
Fortunately, after the strike’s resolution, filming resumed and is also expected to take place in London. Initially scheduled for release on July 12, 2024, Venom 3 will now grace theaters on November 8, 2024.
Tom Hardy is set to reprise his role as the titular character alongside franchise newcomers Juno Temple and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
