Vanna White Is Competing On Wheel Of Fortune For The First Time
Vanna White will be competing on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.
In the world of Wheel of Fortune, we’re by now used to Vanna White revealing the letters that are guessed by contestants. Though this has been the case since 1982, a special celebrity edition of Wheel of Fortune will bring Vanna White to the contestant’s panel for the first time, according to Decider. But Vanna White isn’t the only game show icon that will be competing this May.
But don’t worry about hosting duties, because Pat Sajak is still up the for the task!
This particular Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, known as Ultimate Host Night, is all about game show personalities competing for charity. Pitted against Vanna White will be Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik, the two current co-hosts of Jeopardy. And this is some pretty stiff competition if we must say so ourselves.
We all know by now that Ken Jennings is pretty much a human encyclopedia, and raked in over $4.5 competing on Jeopardy in the past. Mayim Bialik, on the other hand, is most known for her role as Amy Farrah Fowler from The Big Bang Theory, but also boasts a degree in neuroscience from UCLA. Though Vanna White may have certainly met her match, it’s worth noting that she’s been a letter-flipping whiz for over 40 years on Wheel of Fortune, meaning she knows all the tricks of the trade.
Vanna White’s competing on Wheel of Fortune is for a great cause. She’ll be looking to win a $1 million prize, which will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Mayim Bialik will be competing to raise funds for the Mental Wealth Alliance, and Ken Jennings will be competing on behalf of the Equal Justice Initiative.
So no matter who wins, we’ll nonetheless see a hefty payday that will benefit one of these three charitable organizations!
Considering that Wheel of Fortune is half strategy and half trivia, it truly can be anyone’s game. While Vanna White is not without her own knowledge bank of pop culture, which could prove useful in figuring out the mystery phrases, she also knows the mechanics of Wheel of Fortune better than Jennings and Bailik. Conversely, if Jennings finds himself at a disadvantage from buying the wrong vowels, he might still have the intellect to solve the puzzles without being armed with the right letters.
It’s also worth noting that Celebrity Wheel of Fortune has a slightly different format than the regular show. Each hour-long episode includes two full three-round games, along with its own set of toss-ups, and a bonus round in each game. So although the stakes are higher in many ways, Vanna White surely has the home-field advantage.
Another thing to consider is actual physical strength Though it’s been over 25 years since Vanna White has physically flipped the letters on Wheel of Fortune, we’d imagine that she still has the bicep strength and muscle memory to give the wheel one heck of a spin when given the opportunity.
For those of you who can’t wait to see Vanna White compete in Wheel of Fortune, you better save the date. This special, and historic episode will air on May 10, 2023, and for the first time ever, we can hear Vanna White say the iconic catchphrase, “I’d like to buy a vowel.”
