After the Hargreeves siblings averted the second Apocalypse in Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy, fans of the Netflix original (based on the comic book series of the same name written by Gerard Way) have been eager to know what fresh adventures await the superheroes in Season 3, which was announced last year. But despite the continued success of the series and its renewal for a third season, Netflix’s recent canceling spree has made the existence of its next season questionable. But reportedly, The Umbrella Academy has already been renewed for Season 4!
As per The Vulcan Reporter, even the production on The Umbrella Academy Season 3 is currently underway since it started in February this year, the series has already been renewed by Netflix for the next season. Reportedly, this renewal is a part of the eight-figure output deal that showrunner Steve Blackman signed with Netflix in 2020. Judging by the pattern of Netflix’s announcement of the last two seasons of The Umbrella Academy, it is likely that the renewal of Season 4 will be announced at the time of Season 3’s premiere or a while after it debuts.
The possibility that Netflix has renewed The Umbrella Academy for a fourth season so early on is not that surprising if you consider the fact that as per the Nielson ratings revealed by Netflix, the series’ Season 2 was streamed by over 43 million viewers in its first 28 days. The first season of the show was also streamed by more than 45 million viewers in the first month of its release. Judging by the monumental viewership figures that the series continues to bring in, it is surprising that Netflix hasn’t already renewed it for four more seasons!
But it will be a long time before Netflix makes the news official and meanwhile, its fans will have a lot on their plates as they will be busy obsessing over what the highly anticipated Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy will mean for the Hargreeves siblings. At the end of Season 2, they barely managed to avert the Apocalypse they brought to 1960s Dallas and returned back to their original timeline. But turns out, if you tamper with time it messes with your life in return.
When the Hargreeves siblings return to 2019, they discover that not only is Reginald alive but has also, deliberately, established the “Sparrow Academy” instead of the Umbrella Academy. The next twist? Apart from 5 new faces and a floating green cube, this new superhero team also includes a still-alive, though emo and rather hostile Ben.
The identity of the remaining five siblings of the Sparrow Academy remained hidden until on January 11, 2021, Netflix announced the new additions to the cast of The Umbrella Academy Season 3, which will see Justin H. Ming (now a series regular), Justin Cornwell, Britne Oldford, Genesis Rodriguez, Cazzie David, Jake Epstein and of course, the best of them all, the “Existential Dread Inducing Psykronium Cube.” While Justin H. Ming will continue to play Ben (now, number 2), Cornwell will be seen as Marcus (Number 1), Oldford as Fei (Number 3), Rodriguez as Sloane (Number 5), David as Jayme (Number 6), and Epstein as Alphonso (Number 4),
