Umbrella Academy’s New Cast Revealed
Before The Umbrella Academy begins production on Season Three, Netflix has unveiled a new cast for the show's "Sparrow Academy."

The second season finale of The Umbrella Academy introduced viewers to an altered 2019, in which the “Sparrow Academy” existed instead of the Umbrella Academy, introducing new children, and the return of Justin H. Min’s Ben as Number One. Now, the rest of the Sparrow Academy has been announced, with five new characters, and likely the show’s new breakout star, Existential Dread Inducing Psykronium Cube.
The Sparrow Academy will consist of Justin H. Min, Justin Cornwell (Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey), Cazzie David (86’ed), Jake Epstein (Designated Survivor), Britne Oldford (Hunters), and Genesis Rodriguez (Big Hero 6). This new crew will join returning Umbrella Academy cast members Ritu Arya, David Castañeda, Colm Feore, Aiden Gallagher, Adam Godley, Tom Hopper, Elliot Page, Emmy Raver-Lampman, and Robert Sheehan. The third season is expected to begin production in February in Toronto.
Netflix has also released character descriptions for these new Umbrella Academy characters. Justin Cornwell will play Marcus, Sparrow #1. Marcus is described as a “charming, chiseled, colossus” who keeps the group together and is known for his confidence and leadership. Britne Oldford is Fei, Sparrow #3, who likes to be left alone, despite wanting a friend, and is often the smartest person in the room. Jake Epstein is Alphonso, Sparrow #4, who is used to constant battles, and has a strong sense of humor.
Genesis Rodriguez will play Sloane, Sparrow #5, a dreamer who longs to see the world outside of this family, who has plans to one day make this dream come true. Cazzie David is Jayme, Sparrow #6, a smart loner whose only friend is Alphonso. Finally, the scene-stealing star of The Umbrella Academy Season Three is Existential Dread Inducing Psykronium Cube, who will play Christopher, Sparrow #7. The cube acts as the family mediator who gives out advice and has an unknown origin. The cube has no previous acting roles.
In addition to these Sparrows, The Umbrella Academy Season Three will see the return of Ben, as Sparrow #2. The description of his character makes it clear this isn’t the Ben from the actual Umbrella Academy, but rather a tactician who wants to become the leader of the Sparrow Academy, no matter what it takes.
The Umbrella Academy has been one of the most popular shows on Netflix since its debut in 2019. Netflix reported that in the first month of its release, more than 45 million households had watched the show. In 2019, the series was the third most popular show on Netflix. With the debut of season two last year, the show was streamed by over 43 million viewers and was the sixth most-watched show of the year on Netflix.
The Umbrella Academy already has an exciting cast, but with the third season, it looks as though the show is going to get a significant upgrade in its lineup. As the show explores alternate realities, new variations of characters, and the hottest new star in Hollywood – the Existential Dread Inducing Psykronium Cube – Umbrella Academy Season Three is looking to be the show’s most insane season yet.
