The Umbrella Academy dropped a new trailer for its fourth and final season, and it’s fittingly scored by My Chemical Romance’s “The End” (MCR’s singer Gerard Way co-wrote the comic books). Along with seeing the Hargreeves siblings back and ready to stop the end of the world, we also meet Nick Offerman’s character, Dr. Gene Thibedeau. Thibedeau gives us a clue of what to expect for the season, saying, “That tentacle boy is the key to understanding all the timelines.”

Of course, fans of The Umbrella Academy know the “tentacle boy” in question is Ben Hargreeves (Justin H. Min), who seems to be back after dying in a previous season. Meanwhile, the Hargreeves siblings are all separated after the events of the battle at Hotel Oblivion last season, and they’ve also lost their powers. Meanwhile, their father, Reginald, is now head of a seemingly evil business empire, while a shadowy organization known as The Keepers echo Thibedeau’s sentiments that the world is a “phony bologna lie.”

The Umbrella Academy has been a consistent hit for Netflix, so it’s good to see that it will be able to go out on its own terms and provide fans with a satisfying ending.

In other words, the final season of The Umbrella Academy has a lot of plotlines to juggle and wrap up. Along for the ride will be cast members Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castaneda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, Colm Feore, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, David Cross. Steve Blackman, who created the TV series, is executive producer and showrunner. Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba, who created the Dark Horse comic series, also serve as co-executive producers on the show.

The new trailer for The Umbrella Academy also comes fresh on the heels of recent allegations against co-creator Steve Black for bullying and harassment.

While the Hargreeves siblings have had to stop the end of the world throughout the first three seasons, it seems like Ben may actually be the one responsible for the impending apocalypse this time. The trailer also indicated finding out how he died could be the key to preventing it. The new trailer for The Umbrella Academy also comes fresh on the heels of recent allegations against co-creator Steve Black for bullying and harassment. The allegations came from 12 anonymous sources in a Rolling Stones report that Blackman’s rep then dismissed as “entirely untrue.” In a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, Blackman’s rep said that the allegations were investigated and that “all but one” were found to be unsubstantiated.

For those who have missed the first three seasons of The Umbrella Academy, the series follows a family of adopted superhero siblings who try to solve the mystery of their father’s death while also facing the impending end of the world. All three seasons received critical acclaim, and the show has amassed plenty of viewers throughout its run, often ending up in Netflix’s Top Ten when new episodes come out.

The fourth and final season is sure to be no different, so make sure to catch up on the first three seasons if you haven’t already, and you can catch the final season when it hits Netflix on August 8.
