Uma Thurman Suits Up For Netflix Superhero Sequel
Uma Thurman hasn't played a superhero since the awful My Super Ex-Girlfriend, and this Netflix sequel has just got to be better than that.

Charlize Theron is set to get some more superhero help (or resistance) in the upcoming sequel to Netflix’s The Old Guard. It’s been reported that both Uma Thurman and Henry Golding will join the cast of The Old Guard 2. The first movie was quite the hit for Netflix, so bringing in talents like Thurman and Golding should only help to make the sequel that much bigger and better.
There isn’t much in the way of plot details for The Old Guard 2, but it does seem like it will be picking up directly after the events of the previous film. The Old Guard depicted a covert team of super mercenaries finding that they’re suddenly exposed and fighting to protect their identity in the wake of a new member being discovered. It starred Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngo and Chiwetel Ejiofor. These stars are all set to return for the sequel alongside Uma Thurman and Henry Golding. Victoria Mahoney will direct the screenplay by Greg Rucka, which is based on the comics by Rucka and Leandro Fernandez. Mahoney was brought on to replace Gina Prince-Bythewood, who directed the first film but had to drop out of the sequel due to other commitments.
It remains to be seen if The Old Guard 2 can live up to the popularity of the original. The first movie managed to rake in 186 million viewing hours in its first 28 days of release, making it one of the most-watched Netflix original movies. These are lofty expectations to live up to, but adding Uma Thurman and Henry Golding might help them exceed these expectations.
2022 has been a pretty busy year for Uma Thurman. In addition to filming The Old Guard 2, she starred in two TV series and a movie. The Kill Bill actress kicked off the year with Suspicion, an Apple TV+ series about five Brits trying to prove their innocence after being accused of kidnapping the son of a US media mogul. She also appeared in the show Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber as Arianna Huffington. The show starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Uber founder Travis Kalanick and the highs and lows of starting the transportation company everyone knows today. She also had a role in the Disney movie Hollywood Stargirl, which featured Grace Vanderwaal as Stargirl Caraway, a young woman following her music dreams.
The Old Guard 2 should be the next project we see from Uma Thurman, though there hasn’t been a release date announced yet. There’s also no word on who Uma Thurman and Henry Golding will be playing, but with their action chops, it would be surprising if they didn’t feature as new additions to the immortal group, or at least as their adversaries for the film. Undoubtedly, we should get more information as the series progresses in production and presumably a trailer sooner than later. Stay tuned for more news about The Old Guard 2 and when we can expect to see it.
