Twilight: Midnight Sun Coming To Netflix, Our Exclusive Scoop Confirmed
Good things come to those who wait. And for Twilight fans, it’s been quite a long wait indeed. But for those who love the franchise, the recent news is a reason to celebrate. It confirms a previous Giant Freakin Robot exclusive report that a Twilight project was in the works at Netflix. That’s come to pass with the word that Twilight: Midnight Sun was heading to the streamer.
Of course, there are a few things to know about Twilight: Midnight Sun. The first is that this Netflix series will be in animated form, meaning we aren’t going to see Kristen Stewart or Robert Pattinson return to the screen as Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. No, it will be different versions of those characters, though clearly in the same universe.
Twilight fans will know that Midnight Sun was a Stephanie Meyers novel meant as a companion piece to the original story. This one was written from Edward’s point of view, meaning we get a different perspective for the story this time around.
The Netflix Twilight: Midnight Sun adaptation should go into Edward’s trials and tribulations here as he observes Bella Swan from the proverbial shadows. The story focuses on Edward’s struggles as a vampire as well as his clear desire to protect Bella from all those things that go bump in the night, trying to cause her harm.
There’s also an element to Twilight: Midnight Sun that explores more of Edward’s family and siblings, something that is sure to come out in the Netflix animated series. The book does parallel the plot of the original Twilight book but obviously deviates in being able to tell a separate part of the story, those times when these two weren’t together, as well as what was happening from Edward’s side.
It’s an interesting, and probably smart, move by Netflix to go about this from an animated stance since there won’t be any of the issues, at least for now, in recasting the rather iconic parts played by the two leads in the original movies. In a world of reboots, Twilight appears to be holding off some, at least for now.
The Twilight franchise is one of the truly amazing commercial successes of our times. The Stephanie Meyers novels sold over 100 million copies and the films took in more than $3.3 billion throughout their run.
Twilight Midnight Sun should just add to what fans already want to see. More Edward and Bella.
