Sequels aren’t always known to live up to expectations, but horror films are an exception. Thrill-seeking audiences are eager to see recurring masked monsters and slashers come alive for another run at mindless teenagers or other unsuspecting victims. Trick ‘r Treat is one such film that left fans dying for more and now it is finally getting its much-awaited sequel in Trick ‘r Treat 2.

Unlike most scary movies, Trick ‘r Treat broke out with its own storytelling methods. It portrayed multiple stories that easily stood on their own, but were also connected. Often recalled as a Halloween anthology, this format is ready to take on new heights in a Trick ‘r Treat 2.

Creator Michael Dougherty revealed at a Beyond Fest screening last night that Trick ‘r Treat will not only be getting another installment but that Trick ‘r Treat 2 is already being actively developed. He is currently working with Legendary studios. Although he did not openly admit that the film is 100% greenlit, and previous attempts to create a sequel to the original have fallen through in the past, fans are eager for updates.

In order to keep fans gripping their seats, Trick ‘r Treat is being rereleased widely across the nation. Due to the movie’s cult following, it will be the first time that audiences can easily flock to experience all the horrors involved. During its original release run, back in 2007, it was uncertain whether the project would be well-received, and to keep costs low, it was only shown at select theaters.

Now given a new chance to scare more people throughout the spooky season, Trick ‘r Treat 2 may be dependent on newly gained interest. Whether this is the full intent of the re-release is uncertain. What is known is that it will be ready to thrill Regal audiences starting Thursday, and AMC moviegoers will be able to join in the fun starting on October 21st.

Across the nation, Halloween horror-movie lovers can experience Trick ‘r Treat in theaters. The 5 interwoven stories are sure to send chills down spines, and allow fans to relive their first viewing terrors. If proven to draw in significant crowds, the sequel will gain more support and thus secure a stronger hold on being brought to life for more supernatural fears.

How a Trick ‘r Treat 2 will play out is currently alive for the imagination, but it is highly likely that the anthology format would continue to appease. Instead of following one group of cast members — who may or may not annoy watchers into wishing for their demise — the opportunity to witness various characters go through their own stories to connect up, holds a classic R.L. Stine vibe reminiscent of the various horror series that many thrill seekers grew up with. For now, those awaiting the sequel will have to wait.

Thankfully Trick ‘r Treat 2 is not only finally in development, but it’s also getting a wide run in theaters. As more people return to this strange film and others come to discover it, the potential to expand on it grows. Whether a release date and casting news are soon to come depends on many factors, but fans can anticipate more thanks to last night’s announcement.
