Transformers Anime

Transformers is still a franchise alive and well, with several movies and collaborations in progress. However, fans have been waiting for a new anime adaptation for over a year. Thankfully, the wait might not be too much longer, as a new Transformers anime was announced, set to be produced by Studio Trigger.

The announcement was brief, but more than enough to raise interest for a new potential series by this hot animation studio.

The announcement came as part of the 40th anniversary of Transformers. This is unexpected news, considering the last Transformers anime, Transformers Go! came out over a decade ago in 2013.

Studio Trigger is an incredibly hot studio at the moment, with anime like Delicious in Dungeon, Kill la Kill, Promare, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners under its belt.

However, just because there hasn’t been a Transformers anime for a while doesn’t mean the franchise is dead. There have been plenty of collaborations, such as recent ones with Godzilla and Overwatch 2. There have also been plenty of TV shows and movies that have come out over the years, like the Transformers One film, the first fully CGI movie in the franchise.

The franchise originally started as a series of toys by the company Takara, which later turned into Takara Tomy. The toys were called Diaclone and Micro Change, but after working with Hasbro, the name changed to the now-famous Transformers. Since the toy line was released, Transformers anime, comics, movies, TV shows, books, and video games have provided entertainment for children and adults everywhere.

Additionally, Imaishi, before creating Studio Trigger, also handled famous mecha anime like Gurren Lagann.

Studio Trigger is an incredibly hot studio at the moment, with anime like Delicious in Dungeon, Kill la Kill, Promare, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners under its belt, and pretty much anything the studio has made in the last few years has been a popular series. That information alone provides some confidence that they will give the new Transformers anime the love and attention required, but it’s not the only reason Studio Trigger is the right team for the job.

There’s no doubt Studio Trigger is the perfect team for a new anime. Not only are they knocking it out of the park with their current adaptations, but much of the team, including co-founder Hiroyuki Imaishi (Space Patrol Luluco) are big fans of mechas. Additionally, they’ve proven they do well with mecha anime, with anime like Gridman Universe, SSSS.Dynazenon, and Darling in the FranXX under their belts.

Additionally, Imaishi, before creating Studio Trigger, also handled famous mecha anime like Gurren Lagann. So the studio and Imaishi handling a Transformers anime should be no problem at all.

This is unexpected news, considering the last Transformers anime, Transformers Go came out over a decade ago in 2013.

The only downside to the announcement of the Transformers anime is how little information was provided. The trailer was only 39 seconds long, and only showed a few brief clips of the potential animation for the story. However, what could be seen from the video was enough to garner some excitement with quick glimpses of classic characters such as Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Arcee, and Megatron appearing.

However, with no potential release date, or much more information than that from the studio, fans might have to wait a long time before they get to learn anything more about the Transformers anime.
