Toxic Avenger Reboot Sets World Premiere For Next Month
After being in production for nearly a full decade, The Toxic Avenger has finally set a release date, per a recent write-up from The Hollywood Reporter. The film, which serves as a modern reimagining of the 1984 classic of the same name, stars Game of Thrones‘ Peter Dinklage in the title role and is set to kick off next month’s Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas.
A re-imagining of the Troma classic, The Toxic Avenger will finally emerage from over a decade of development at Fantastic Fest this September.
Fans have long awaited the fifth installment in The Toxic Avenger series, which originally courted Arnold Schwarzenegger for its lead role before securing Peter Dinklage. Shockingly, Schwarzenegger wound up dropping the project in favor of Terminator Genisys, which premiered all the way back in 2015, in a display that shows just how long the film has been in production.
With The Toxic Avenger finally complete and ready to see the light of day, writer/director Macon Blair, who also appears in the film as a character named Dennis, is excited to bring the Peter Dinklage-led film to market at the Fantastic Fest film festival. The festival, which has been running since 2005, is an annual event held in Austin highlighting horror, science fiction, action, and fantasy movies across the board.
Fantastic Fest is set to take place at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar in Austin from September 21 until September 28, with The Toxic Avenger serving as the first premiere and the Nahnatchka Khan-directed film Totally Killer premiering to close out the festival.

While many premiers such as these are attended by their stars, there is no way of knowing at this time whether Peter Dinklage will be in attendance. Due to the rules outlined by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, it seems unlikely that many big-name actors will be making public appearances as the AMPTP continues to deny them a negotiation of a fair deal.
The Toxic Avenger has an all-star cast that consists of A-listers such as Peter Dinklage, Elijah Wood, and Kevin Bacon. The film also touts a cast of prolific performers such as Jacob Tremblay, who is best known for his roles in films such as Room, The Predator, Good Boys, and most recently The Little Mermaid, as well as Taylour Paige, who is best known for her incredible vocal performance in the Kendrick Lamar song “We Cry Together” as well as starring alongside the rap icon in the short film of the same name.
In addition to her upcoming placement in The Toxic Avenger, Paige has a number of high-profile Hollywood placements in projects such as Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, and Welcome To Derry. Like his co-star, Peter Dinklage also has a number of massive projects around the bend, including leading roles in films such as The Thicket, The Dwarf, and The Wild Bunch, as well as another Macon Blair-penned film, Brothers, which is set to be directed by Palm Springs filmmaker Max Barbakow.

For fans anxiously awaiting the long-promised premiere of The Toxic Avenger, tickets are expected to go on sale for this year’s Fantastic Fest soon. While there has been no word yet on a wide theatrical release, fans can surely plan to see the Peter Dinklage-led film in a wider capacity in the coming months following the premiere.
