Tom Holland And Tobey Maguire Set To Fight Two Iconic Spider-Man Villains?
Are Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire actually teaming up to fight a couple of villains on screen as Spider-Man. It looks like that's the plan

If you need a, well, web to keep track of all the ways the Spider-Man universe is set to overlap then I wouldn’t blame you. Spread across two studios and apparently using the entire catalog of Spider-Man versions as well as every villain he’s ever fought, the landscape for the character is getting a lot more hectic these days. It’s all cool stuff, but it definitely can get a little confusing. The latest word from We Got This Covered has things dialing up even more in the future. That’s because apparently, Sony has plans to put Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield all together to fight off both Venom and Carnage at some point. A bold undertaking to say the least.
Now, this is all a rumor and you’d be forgiven if you got a little deja vu from this news. That’s because for forever we’d been expecting this kind of team-up to happen in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home. It had been long-rumored that the Marvel Cinematic Universe plan was for Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield to take the screen together and fight their way through the Multiverse against all manner of previous Spider-Man villains from the big screen. That’s not’ going to come to fruition, but that doesn’t mean Sony can’t dream big on the prospect of actually making it happen.
This latest rumor has the Tom Holland version of Spider-Man actually heading into the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters (SPUMC) which should probably just be titled: what we have leftover of the Spider-Man franchise. They are developing movies now around the web slinger’s primary antagonists, giving them quasi-anti hero turns in feature films. Tom Hardy is set to reprise his Venom role when he meets Woody Harrelson’s Carnage in Venom: Let There Be Carnage. If Sony has its way, these two will team up to fight the universe’s Spideys.
Thanks the creation of the Multiverse, it’s pretty easy these days to crossover different actors who’ve played the same role in other iterations of the franchise. It’s the perfect storytelling cheat code in that we no longer need to be worried about silly things like universes, or reality. It’s what makes it possible to actually consider seeing three different Peter Parkers in Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield all on screen at once. Heck, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse pulled it off once already and that movie was awesome.
Before these three end up fighting the likes of Venom and Carnage, and ultimately Morbius and probably Kraven the Hunter as well, Spider-Man: No Way Home has to resolve a couple of its storylines. Though Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield aren’t going to appear in that one, there’s plenty of other stuff for Tom Holland to worry about. That’s because it’s set to bring over villains from the franchise like Willam Defoe’s Green Goblin, Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Michael Keaton’s Vulture. That’s a little somebody from every movie version of the character. It’s setting up to be a massive blockbuster.
Whether Sony ever pulls Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield together into one movie remains to be seen. Marvel couldn’t seem to get it done (if they were trying). But Sony could for sure pull it off and they are clearly building to something big with their current run of movies.
