Two of today’s biggest stars are teaming up for an upcoming movie. According to Deadline, Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum will star in a Universal Pictures film. Although exact details of the movie are scarce, there is some information on what it will be. Deadline reports that the movie will take place in Afghanistan. It will specifically tell the true story of three former special members who help out during this time. As of now, there is no timeline on when the film will begin shooting.
Apart from starring in it, Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum will also serve as producers. The executive producer of the movie will be George Nolfi who also pitched the idea of the movie. Nolfi has a long history of writing screenplays. According to IMDb, he wrote the screenplay for movies such as The Banker and The Adjustment Bureau and was also their director. He’s also served as a producer in the movie Birth of the Dragon and co-producer in The Sentinel.
It’s no surprise why he picked Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum to star in this film, with both actors having experience playing soldiers. In 2008, Channing Tatum played the character Staff Sergeant Steve Shriver in the movie, Stop-Loss. Although that was a fictional story and a fictional character, unlike this upcoming Universal Pictures film, which is said to be fact-based.
Tom Hardy also has experience playing soldiers. In 2001, he played the character, SPC Lance Twombly in the war film, Black Hawk Down. 16 years later, he played a Royal Air Force pilot in Christopher Nolan’s war film, Dunkirk.
Another reason why they were chosen can be summed up by an easier explanation, they’re both massively popular. Both Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum still get plenty of work and have appeared in numerous projects in recent years. Their popularity has been strong for years and won’t waver anytime soon. Recently, Channing Tatum has done a lot of voice-over work. He’s worked on animated movies such as Smallfoot, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, and America: The Motion Picture. Most recently, he had a cameo appearance in the action-comedy film, Free Guy.
Tom Hardy is no slouch either. He starred as the titular character in 2018’s Venom and returned for the sequel that came out this year, Venom: Let There Be Carnage. In 2020, he played the infamous American gangster, Al Capone, in the biographical movie, Capone.
It remains to be seen when exactly this upcoming film will release and if it will be a big hit. This year, Universal Pictures had popular films release such as F9, Halloween Kills, and The Forever Purge. In 2022, Universal Pictures has a busy schedule. Some of the films slated for release include Jurrasic World: Dominion, Minions: The Rise of Gru, and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. It’s possible that the movie won’t come out until 2023, but 2024 seems even more likely, since the Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy film doesn’t have a full filming schedule yet.
