However, later on in the film, Paul Edgecomb soon finds out that Coffey is an innocent man and offers to set him free to escape death row.
Then something surprising happens. Coffey denies the release, believing that the world is a place he doesn’t want to be a part of. The end of the film shows the execution of Coffey, which adds to the drama of the film. The Green Mile embodies drama and deeper meanings in regards to life and humans. The performances from the cast, including Tom Hanks and Michael Clark Duncan, garnered a significant amount of critical acclaim. The film had a budget of $60 million and overall made around $286 million at the box office.
