Tom Brady might be done on the football field (operative word being “might”) but the dude already has plans for other projects and some of them even involve, well, the football field. The greatest player in NFL history has stepped away from the game for now, but he’s set to take part in a movie about football and about one of his best games. The Hollywood Reporter has it that Brady is producing and acting in an upcoming movie titled 80 for Brady which will feature some acting icons in a story about one of the most exciting Super Bowls ever played.
80 for Brady is titled after Tom Brady who was one of the heroes of Super Bowl LI. The movie will star Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field in a story about four women who travel to New Orleans for the Super Bowl to root on their beloved New England Patriots. It is inspired by a true story about the four friends who want to get to the game, but in true Hollywood fashion are faced with all kinds of hijinks along the way. Tom Brady is on as a producer and will also be featured in the film as well, though the depth of his role isn’t quite known. Surely we will see him on the field at least with footage of the game sure play in here at some point.
Super Bowl LI went down in 2017 between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons. It is widely regarded as one of the best big games ever with Tom Brady helping to manufacture a massive comeback win for the Patriots. The Patriots were down 28-3 to the Falcons in the third quarter but stormed all the way back to win the game 34-28. Brady was named the MVP after engineering the comeback. He set Super Bowl records for passing attempts (62), completions (43), and passing yards (466) and was named MVP as well. It was his fourth Super Bowl MVP award.
80 for Brady begins the post-playing days for Tom Brady who effectively retired this year after 22 seasons in the NFL. At the age of 44, the quarterback eschewed many conventional ideas around age in professional athletes, and especially football players with his ability to keep playing at a high level long after most players had retired. During his unbelievable career, he won the Super Bowl seven times, was 5-time Super Bowl MVP, and won the NFL’s MVP award three times. He’s widely regarded as the best quarterback to ever lace them up and it’s fitting that one of his first big productions following his playing days will be in a story about, well, himself.
80 for Brady is being developed in part by Tom Brady’s production company 199 Productions (the 199 a reference to when he was taken in the NFL draft as a rookie). The film is directed by Kyle Marvin who wrote the script with Michael Angelo Covino. The two worked together on the 2019s The Climb, which they also starred in. It was a drama-comedy about two friends who share a love of biking together but also see a woman get between them. It appeared at a number of festivals and was critically acclaimed at the time.
