Tobin Bell Starring In A New Horror Movie, See The Chilling First Look
Saw star Tobin Bell returns to his signature genre in this chilling first look at the indie horror film, ReBroken.
Horror movies are killing the competition. The genre is off to a hot start in 2023 with M3GAN and Knock at the Cabin pulling big numbers, but the nightmare has only just begun. Tobin Bell, the villainous voice of Jigsaw in the Saw franchise, will return to the role for Saw 10 this year, but not before he appears in another frightening flick, ReBroken.
ReBroken is the feature directorial debut from actor and producer Kenny Yates. The film follows Will, a grieving father played by Cobra Kai actor Scott Hamm Duenas, who encounters a mysterious stranger played by Tobin Bell. The strange man gives Will a vinyl record that allows him to communicate with his deceased daughter through supernatural means.
After Tobin Bell disappears, Will becomes desperate to complete the process he believes will retrieve his daughter from beyond the grave. He must confront his own alcoholism and his grief support group, which he suspects may have ulterior motives, in order to finish what he started. Through it all, Will must contend with a critical question: has grief driven him mad?
The low-budget indie film debuted an impressive trailer full of eerie elements. The film appears to be a slow-burn exploration of grief in a psychological horror format. ReBroken may not have a lot of money behind it, but it is far from the first foray into low-budget horror for Tobin Bell.
The Saw franchise has offered consistent work for Tobin Bell since 2004 in the form of several films and video games. Bell’s career began much earlier than Saw, dating back to the late 1970s. He has played on TV shows including The X-Files, Stargate SG-1, and The Sopranos, and since Saw has lent his clout to numerous independent horror films.
Tobin Bell will appear in ReBroken when the film is released digitally on March 7, 2023. ReBroken will be distributed by Gravitas Ventures, a company that has brought innumerable indies to market. But the actor won’t stop there.
Saw 10 and ReBroken are just two of many 2023 horror films coming down the pike, and Tobin Bell has a long list of insidious indies looking to release alongside high-profile horrors like Evil Dead Rise. But horror is one genre that routinely defies expectations, with low budgets often yielding high profits. Independent horror films like Terrifier 2 and the impending Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey caught fire by word of mouth; the former reached historic heights for an indie slasher, and a sequel to the unreleased Blood and Honey has already been greenlit.
While horror films typically rely on concept and marketing more than star power, having a name like Tobin Bell attached to a project certainly doesn’t hurt. After nearly two decades in the role, Bell has cemented himself and Jigsaw as horror icons. The menacing puppet has earned a place in the pantheon among the likes of Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Pinhead, Jason Voorhees, Ghostface, and more.
ReBroken looks to serve a fresh take on common horror movie themes and devices like grief and communing with the dead. With a fresh voice behind the camera and an established horror icon like Tobin Bell in front of it, ReBroken may achieve just that.
