Timothy Olyphant Is Back As Raylan Givens In Awesome Video For Justified Reboot
Timothy Olyphant hasn't missed a beat as Raylan Givens in this Justified: City Primeval trailer.
Timothy Olyphant’s Raylan Givens managed to leave Harlan alive, and now it looks like he’ll be in the thick of it in Detroit. The official trailer for the FX mini-series Justified: City Primeval just dropped, and Olyphant is rocking that Western hat as effectively as ever. Check out the trailer below:
The trailer gives us our best look yet at the villain of the mini-series, Boyd Holbrook’s Clement Mansell, as he gives Raylan hell and kills some people. We also meet Raylan’s daughter, played by Timothy Olyphant’s real-life daughter Vivian Olyphant, who will clearly be a big part of the season. Although we don’t see any familiar faces from Justified other than Raylan’s, it seems like the spirit of the Elmore Leonard-based show is alive and well in City Primeval.
Fans of the original FX series will remember Timothy Olyphant’s smooth, Gary Cooper-esque deputy marshall Raylan Givens and his penchant for being a bit of a loose cannon. That aspect of Raylan seems to haven’t changed since Justified, but maybe his daughter being around will help temper some of his angry traits. We won’t have to wait long to see how Raylan has been faring, as the series is set to premiere on July 18.
Timothy Olyphant, Boyd Holbrook, and Vivian Olyphant will star in Justified: City Primeval alongside new faces like Aunjanue Ellis, Adelaide Clemens, Vondie Curtis Hall, Marin Ireland, Norbert Leo Butz, Victor Williams, and Ravi Patel. None of the old familiar faces from the original series are listed to appear in the upcoming revival, but it’s possible that they’re keeping those cameos under wraps. More than anything, fans are definitely hoping that Walton Goggins’ Boyd Crowder makes an appearance at some point.
Undoubtedly, one of the best things about the original series was the hero vs. villain chemistry between Timothy Olyphant’s Raylan and Walton Goggins’ Boyd. Perhaps we’ll get a Justified reunion between these two characters, with Raylan consulting Boyd in a Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling dynamic. At least, one could hope.
Even if we don’t see any other familiar faces from Justified, Timothy Olyphant’s return in City Primeval will be worth the wait. Hopefully, the series was worth the hectic filming incidents the cast and crew went through. Filming for the series was interrupted twice, with cars breaking through barricades in a gunfight for one incident and an incendiary device being thrown at the set for another.
Fortunately, no one was injured in these incidents, but it seems likely that Timothy Olyphant and the rest of the Justified: City Primeval cast were pretty rattled by these incidents. Judging by the trailer alone, it seems like the world and characters that Elmore Leonard created are in good hands with showrunners and writers Dave Adron and Michael Dinner behind the wheel. July 18 may seem like a long time to wait to finally check out the return of Raylan Givens, but at least we have this trailer to keep us occupied in the meantime.
