Time Bandits Remake Reveals Enormous Fantasy Adventure, See The Proof

Earlier today, Apple released a trailer for their remake of the classic 1981 film Time Bandits on YouTube. In the Time Bandits trailer, we see a young boy named Kevin sitting outside by himself reading a book, and it’s shown he doesn’t have many friends. That all seems like it will change, though, as Kevin opens his wardrobe and sees that it leads somewhere else.

In the Time Bandits trailer, Kevin, who is played by Kal-El Tuck, learns that his room functions as a time egress which is what seemingly allowed him to go back to the time of the Vikings.

After Kevin makes his way through the wardrobe, he’s attacked by what look to be Vikings and presumably makes his way back to safety. Afterward, we’re introduced to Lisa Kudrow’s character, Penelope, who seems to be the leader of a group of bandits that steal artifacts throughout time.

In the Time Bandits trailer, Kevin, who is played by Kal-El Tuck, learns that his room functions as a time egress which is what seemingly allowed him to go back to the time of the Vikings. It’s what also allows the bandits he joins up with to go back in time as well.

The Time Bandits trailer changes things up from the original film with the original film having Kevin discover his wardrobe acted as a time egress when a knight on horseback came out of the wardrobe.

Taika Waititi, who directed the pilot episode, will also be acting as the Supreme Being, a character from the first film which was originally played by Tony Jay. Jay, who was best known for his voice, also played Judge Claude Frollo in Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame as well as many other animated projects. Waititi’s penchant for comedy can be seen throughout the Time Bandits trailer.

Apple acquired the rights to make a Time Bandits remake back in 2018, and in early 2019, Waititi was attached to the project to both co-write and direct the pilot episode. Iain Morris and Jemaine Clement also served as co-writers for the remake. Waititi and Clement also worked on the film What We Do In The Shadows which Clement and Waititi co-directed, along with both acting as writers and actors for the film.

The film was stacked with talent, and the Time Bandits trailer also shows off the acting chops of those involved in the remake, as the jury is still out on whether they can match the cult-classic performances of the original.

Terry Gilliam, who wrote the film alongside Monty Python alum Michael Palin and directed the original Time Bandits movie, is serving as an executive producer for Apple’s remake. Gilliam, who also worked on Monty Python’s Flying Circus, also worked with John Cleese on the original film, with Cleese playing Robin Hood in the film.

The film also had future Lord of the Rings actor Ian Holm play Napoleon Bonaparte and famous James Bond actor Sean Connery play the Greek King Agamemnon in the original. The remake was filmed in Wellington, New Zealand which was made famous when Peter Jackson directed his Lord Of The Rings film trilogy there.

Luckily, we don’t have to wait long for the series to arrive, as the Time Bandits remake will premiere later this month on July 24.
