Tim Curry Returns To Movies In New Horror
Fans of Tim Curry will get to see him on the big screen again soon in the movie Stream, a slasher horror released on August 28 to select theaters. In his first big screen appearance since Burke and Hare, Curry will join the cast of a horror movie that follows a demented hotel murder spree and the travails of a family attempting to reconnect. 78-year-old Curry will get to revive his horror roots after a 14-year hiatus from film appearances.
Return Of The Legend
Tim Curry is best known for his iconic role as Frankenfurter in Rocky Horror Picture Show, which gained him and the film a cult following that persists to this day, nearly 50 years after it was released. His other notable performances include the clown Pennywise in the It miniseries and Wadsworth in Clue and he became well known for his ability to deliver creepy and droll performances. His list of on-screen credits is too long to enumerate, and he also has a recent collection of voiceover roles on his resumé.
Pivoted To Voice Acting
After he had a stroke in 2012, Tim Curry has been using a wheelchair and took a step back from most on-screen work. With one performance in the television remake of Rocky Horror Picture Show, titled Let’s Do the Time Warp Again, and voiceover roles for animated projects like Clone Wars, Tim Curry’s hiatus has been a busy one. His appearance in Stream will be his first on-screen role since Burke and Hare in 2010.
Joined By B-Movie Icons
Joining Tim Curry in the cast of Stream are horror veteran Danielle Harris, best known for her work on the Halloween franchise, and Jeffrey Combs, best known for his role as Herbert West in Re-Animator. Dee Wallace, who is known for her role as Donna Trenton in Cujo, and Daniel Roebuck, known for his role as Agent Weine in Final Destination, will also be joining the cast. For those fans raised on 80s cult horror, Stream seems to be assembling somewhat of a dream team cast, adding Curry to the mix in a comeback role.
Involvement Was A Secret
Michael Levey, producer and director of Stream, had to keep Tim Curry’s role in the film a secret during production to keep the details of the movie under wraps. Levey was excited to work with Curry after following his career for years as a fan. Containing their excitement over bringing Tim Curry back to the movies was difficult for the Stream production team, but they can share their exuberance now that it has been released.
A Return To Horror
Billed as a modern slasher, Stream sounds like almost the perfect place for Tim Curry to make his in-theater return. With a cast of horror veterans and a team dedicated to making horror “for horror fans,” according to Levey, the film promises some good scares as well as a nostalgic slasher ambiance. A locked-down hotel where guests have unwittingly subjected themselves to the role of victims in a demented murder competition is the best place possible for Tim Curry to make his exciting return to the theaters.
