The Worst Ryan Reynolds Movie Is Climbing On Netflix Again
Ryan Reynolds has a lot of decent movies. So why is his very worst movie back in the top ten most-watched in Netflix? Let's find out.
This article is more than 2 years old
Though Ryan Reynolds has had quite a few hits over the five years, you might be hard-pressed to call 6 Underground one of them. Though it undoubtedly has had some popularity, most critics and audiences agree that it’s not really his best effort. Still, if you’re interested in some mindless action, the film is currently claiming the Netflix charts again, currently sitting around the #8 spot for trending Netflix content worldwide.
6 Underground is a Michael Bay film, which means you’re pretty much going to get what you’d expect. A ton of action, explosions, special effects, and fairly thin characterization. The movie is about six billionaires who fake their deaths and team up to put their unique skills to good use. In addition to Ryan Reynolds, the movie stars Melanie Laurent, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Ben Hardy, Adria Arjona, Dave Franco, Corey Hawkins, Lior Raz, and more. The screenplay was handled by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. While the movie certainly isn’t going to win any big awards anytime soon, if you like loud and dumb action, then this might be the flick for you. It doesn’t hurt to turn off the brain every once in a while and watch some stuff blow up. The movie has a huge budget, and it definitely shows. So at the very least, you’ll get some good special effects out of the experience. In fact, this movie has the second-biggest budget out of any Netflix original film, with $150 million going toward the production. The only one that beats it out is The Irishman which was $175 million.
As for the reception the movie received, it was pretty lukewarm. From critics, the reception was downright abysmal. The critic score on Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 36%. Audiences were a little more forgiving of the film’s shortcomings, giving it a decent 60%. So, although it’s not the best film in the world, your viewing experience may vary. It only clocks in at just over two hours, so it’s not a terribly huge commitment if you wanted to give the film a try. Of course, if you’re just looking for a good Ryan Reynolds movie, the streaming platform does have better options.
Ryan Reynolds has been keeping pretty busy lately, and his latest Netflix offering is one that has been receiving lots of great reviews. The Adam Project is actually ranking even higher on the streaming charts and a lot of people seem to be loving it. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 68% from critics and a 77% from audiences. Reynolds plays a time-traveling pilot who travels to 2022 to meet up with his 12-year old self and save the future. The Adam Project is directed by Shawn Levy and is written by Jonathan Tropper, T.S. Nowlin, and Jennifer Flackett. In addition to Reynolds, the movie stars Walker Scobell, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, Zoe Saldana, Catherine Keener, and more.
Another one of Ryan Reynold’s Netflix hits can also be streamed on the platform. Red Notice is more of an action-comedy and it tells the story of an Interpol agent hunting down an art thief. The movie stars Reynolds alongside Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot. Critics and audiences are even more divided on this one than they are 6 Underground. While Red Notice gets a terrible 36% from critics, audiences absolutely loved it. They gave it a 92%. Again, it seems like when it comes to Ryan Reynolds and his Netflix movies, your results may differ from others. If you tend to side with the critics, they might not be for you.
As for what the future holds, Ryan Reynolds has a ton of movies on the docket. His next movie set to release is a film called Spirited, where he’ll play Ebenezer Scrooge in an adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic. Perhaps the most anticipated film that Reynolds has on his to-do list is the third Deadpool movie. Unfortunately, mum is the word on that front. There are hardly any details about his third outing as the Merc with a Mouth at this time. All we know is that it’s now going to be under the Marvel umbrella and that Reynolds is reprising his role. In the meantime, you can check out all three of his latest Netflix movies on the streaming platform and find out if they’re your cup of tea.
