Dark Comedy Crime Series On Max Is A Must-Watch Standout
There are so many terrific HBO originals for audiences to stream on Max that Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are just the tip of the iceberg. From docuseries like The Jinx and The Black Widower: The Six Wives of Thomas Randolph to old favorites like Banshee and Deadwood, the streamer has so much to discover you could just quit your job and watch shows for a living – if only it paid. But if you’re looking for a more recent place to start and want to catch up on a critically acclaimed series, the show to turn to is The White Lotus.
The White Lotus
An anthology series created by writer, producer, director, actor, and ex-Survivor contestant, Mike White, there are currently two seasons of The White Lotus available for Max audiences to dig into. While both seasons feature a different storyline with different characters, they have a few things in common.
Firstly, they both center around the happenings at the titular resort chain, and second, they both comically handle the division in class systems between the workers and the wealthy guests.
Season 1
Season 1 of The White Lotus takes place in Hawaii and features a knock-out ensemble of performers that includes Sydney Sweeney (Anyone but You), Murray Bartlett (Welcome to Chippendales), Alexandra Daddario (Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches), Jennifer Coolidge (the Legally Blonde franchise), and Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights) – just to name a few.
The beginning of each season teases a murder that’s taken place on the hotel’s grounds and then goes back in time and sees the mystery unfold as the guests arrive.
Season 2
The second season of The White Lotus moves the action abroad and carries a new set of characters, save for Coolidge’s Tanya McQuoid who returns for more fun in the sun, to the charming coast of Italy.
Again, a killer cast of performers checked into the hotel with names like Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation), Theo James (The Gentlemen), F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus), Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos), and more filling out the cast.
The Reception
Both audiences and critics have loved what Mike White and the rest of his team have done in just two seasons as The White Lotus holds scores of 90 percent and 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively. The series is essentially rolling in awards as well with the debut installment sweeping the Emmys with a whopping 11 nominations and 5 wins.
The fate of the second season’s Emmy performance is still up in the air as the ceremony has yet to be held, howeve,r it has 12 chances to win this time around.

With its unbelievable success in mind, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Season 3 of The White Lotus is already in the works. While not much is known surrounding the plot, we do know that the guests will be vacationing at the hotel’s location in Thailand. And, of course, there will again be an insanely stacked cast that includes Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age), Walton Goggins (The Righteous Gemstones), Jason Isaacs (the Harry Potter franchise), Parker Posey (Best in Show), and more.
Between its incredible casting, well-written storylines that blend comedy and drama with a dab of intrigue and murder, and idyllic locations, The White Lotus is a blast to watch from top to bottom. Stream it today on Max.
