Viewers are one step closer to brand new episodes of The White Lotus as filming for Season 2 has officially wrapped. The show filmed most of its second outing in Italy’s San Domenico Palace Taormina and on location around Sicily. Later, the HBO project quietly filmed for a month at Lumina Studios, which recently signed a six-year strategic pact with resurgent Italian studio Cinecittà, Deadline reports. The iconic facility is growing its capacity due to the demand for studio space.

Cinecittà recently needed to house some productions at satellite venues like Lumina, which has four sound stages. The need for more space is a sign of growing interest in Italy as a production destination. It’s also impressive that the studio was able to attract The White Lotus Season 2 which is one of the most popular shows in the United States. The first season was the most-awarded series at the latest Emmy Awards, winning 10 prizes, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

The White Lotus Season 2 will premiere next in October. Although a specific date has yet to be announced, HBO released a trailer for season two last month. The clip is shot in the form of a commercial for the fictional resort chain’s rewards program known as “Petal and Blossom Circles.” The video features a tranquil music soundtrack and images of a luxury boat called “The White Lotus – Sicily” on the open water.

Tanya McQuoid-Hunt praises The White Lotus in a voiceover, saying whenever she stays at any of the resort’s properties it’s always a memorable experience. Another voiceover takes over, as various images of guests, hotel staff, and the beautiful Sicilian landscape are showcased. The “commercial” ends with a graphic that reads, “Now taking reservations for October.” The address that appears on screen takes viewers to a website for The White Lotus where they can learn all about the show and the upcoming season two.

Created by Mike White for HBOThe White Lotus chronicles the lives of guests and employees of the fictional White Lotus resort chain. As time goes by, their time at the hotel becomes affected by their various dysfunctions. Originally intended as a six-part limited series, the comedy/drama premiered in July 2021 to critical acclaim and high ratings.

Due to its success, the network decided to renew it as an anthology series. Jennifer Coolidge’s portrayal of the grieving heiress was so popular that she’ll be one of two members returning for The White Lotus Season 2.

Meanwhile, the creator of The White Lotus is very aware that his series about the corrosive effects of privilege and wealth also perpetuated the issues he meant to lampoon. While Mike White defends his vision for the debut season, he’s also hoping that season two will help broaden the story’s worldview.

As the latest outing reroutes the drama to Sicily, the cast of characters will delve into relational dynamics and gender roles, instead of colonialism issues and the socioeconomic cultural gaps seen in the first season. It will also find new ways to display the worst of the 1%.
