The Sims Movie Sounds Like The Nightmare Of Playing The Games
If ever there was a game that communicated the stuff of nightmares, it’s The Sims, and now there’s a movie that promises to include the creepiest aspects of the game. The Sims movie is officially being produced, with the permission of Electronic Arts for Amazon by MGM, and plans to bring many of the game’s tropes, weird creations, and bizarre phantasms into its fold. The game’s estimated 500 million-player following is being promised an authentic experience by The Sims movie creators.
Margot Robbie’s Involvement
The Sims movie is being produced by Margot Robbie’s company, LuckyChap, and directed by Kate Heron, most famous for her work on Loki. Kate Heron is teaming up with Briony Redman of Dr. Who fame to write the movie. EA Entertainment plans to work with the production team to make The Sims movie as authentic as possible for fans.
The Bizarre World Of The Sims
If you’re a fan of The Sims, you can expect characters in The Sims movie to converse in Simlish, the language created for and spoken by characters in the game. There will also likely be freezer bunnies, a pool without a ladder, and several more easter eggs that are callbacks to classic Sims mythos. These elements are intended as a salute to the many weird and wonderful Sims aberrations that players of the game will recognize and enjoy.
What To Expect
Other things that could be a part of The Sims movie but have not yet been confirmed by Kate Gorman, vice president of EA Games and general manager of The Sims, are the infamous burning baby, the Goth Family, and maybe a haunted clown portrait.
These are just a few of the creepy aspects of the game that fans find hilarious and would love to see in The Sims movie. Perhaps some of the game’s mysteries will be solved, such as the disappearance of Bella Goth or whether or not Dr. Dominic Newlow is sentient, but the creators are tight-lipped about their plot thus far.
Decades Of The Sims
Fans of The Sims game are multigenerational at this point, with the first version of the game being released in 2000 for Microsoft by Electronic Arts. Technically, the Sims franchise has been around even longer than that, with the first version of the game being SimCity, released in 1989 for multiple platforms and also known as Retronyms and Micropolis.
While fans of The Sims as it exists now wouldn’t recognize previous versions of the game, there have also been multiple compilations, adaptations, and variations on the franchise over its 35-year existence, so The Sims movie covers a wide swath of fandom.
More To Come
While The Sims movie doesn’t have a release date yet, if the Barbie movie is a good measure, fans can expect to see The Sims movie sometime in 2025. The cast of the movie has also not yet been announced, but EA Games has shared that The Sims movie will be firmly grounded in the world of the game. While further details are scarce, the film promises to draw on the quirky details of the game that fans have come to enjoy.
