The Signal Is Netflix’s New Dark Sci-Fi Series You Need To Check Out
Netflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming space thriller miniseries The Signal, which will premiere on the platform on March 7. Produced by Bon Voyage Films, the German studio responsible for works like The Nightmare and Curveball, the visually stunning four-episode series has received partial funding from the German Motion Picture Fund.
The trailer for The Signal introduces us to Paula (Peri Baumeister), a woman with an unbridled passion for space travel. However, her celestial fascination takes a dark turn when she suddenly disappears without a trace, sending her husband, Sven (Florian David Fitz), and young daughter, Charlie (Yuna Bennett), into a frantic search for answers.
The family is thrust into a perplexing situation when they receive a cryptic message hinting that whatever Paula discovered during her space expedition poses a potential threat to the entire planet. The almost two-minute clip of The Signal showcases the series’ scope but also withholds vital details that would otherwise spoil the story.
The official synopsis for The Signal offers a more detailed description of the plot, revealing the exact moment Paula vanishes. After spending months stationed on the International Space Station, astronaut Paula looks forward to reuniting with her family. Once back on Earth, the plane she boards doesn’t take her home.
Instead, what was supposed to be the simplest part of her journey becomes an intricate mystery. The only plausible explanation is that something Paula encountered in space is linked to her sudden disappearance. The details surrounding Paula’s unsettling discovery are set to unfold when The Signal premieres on Netflix.
Star of The Signal Peri Baumeister is best known for her roles in Netflix’s Skylines and Blood Red Sky. Florian David Fitz, who is also a notable German screenwriter and film director, has an impressive list of acting credits, including Jesus Loves Me, The Most Beautiful Day, and 100 Things. He is also known for his role as Dr. Marc Olivier Meier in the television series Doctor’s Diary.
The supporting cast of The Signal includes Katharina Schüttler, Sheeba Chaddha, Seumas F. Sargent, Hadi Khanjanpour, and Katharina Thalbach. The Signal is a must-watch for those seeking a thrilling blend of sci-fi, mystery, and family drama, as the series promises to be a captivating and mind-bending space odyssey.
Along with The Signal, Netflix has a slew of new and returning shows viewers can look forward to. The list includes Spanish crime series The Gentlemen, French drama series The Cage, 3 Body Problem, A Man in Full, Nightmares and Daydreams, and Netflix is a Joke Fest. There are also returning favorites like Squid Game, Stranger Things, The Witcher, and Bridgerton in 2024 or 2025.
