The Mandalorian Season 3 could be in jeopardy of not releasing early next year. In fact, it could be years before we actually see it.

If you’ve been eagerly awaiting The Mandalorian Season 3, I don’t blame you. The show has been firing on blasters for the first two seasons and gave us plenty to think about when it wrapped up its last episode, “The Rescue” back in December of 2020. But we might have some time to wait before getting more stories in this universe. In fact, it could be years. Insider Daniel Richtman is reporting that there have been delays and the show might not hit its early-2022 release timeline.
Richtman doesn’t give more specific details about why The Mandalorian Season 3 could be facing major and unplanned delays in its production. But if the show was delayed it could be a major blow for Disney+ as the tentpole program for its budding universe of Star Wars shows on the streaming platform. With plenty of more series in the works, much of the initial momentum was built on the back of Mando and his adventures in the galaxy.
While Richtman doesn’t cite this specifically, there had been rumors last week that The Mandalorian Season 3 was facing potential delays. Those were tied to the production of Obi-Wan Kenobi which is currently filming right now. The Star Wars productions all use the same sound stage for their shows and apparently the Ewan Mcgregor-led limited series was prioritized over The Mandalorian causing the second one to be pushed back. Again, that part is simply a rumor, though logistically does make a lot of sense considering how Disney is approaching these series.
The other part of this initial speculation about a potential delay for The Mandalorian Season 3 was around the series star Pedro Pascal. With the Disney show raising his profile quite a bit, the guy’s dance card began to fill up considerably. He’s been cast as Joel Miller in the video game adaptation of The Last of Us. Apparently, that show is set to start filming this July and could take over a year to complete. If that was the case there could definitely be scheduling conflicts for Pascal filming his current show.
When The Mandalorian Season 3 hits Disney+ is anyone’s guess now though there appear to be enough rumblings to think there is definitely fire with all the smoke. That being said, there’s more than enough coming in the Star Wars pipeline to keep fans happy for some time. The Book of Boba Fett, a limited series about the titular character, now a criminal empire overseer, is still on schedule for the end of this year. That series is spun off the events of The Mandalorian and could see significant overlap with the latter show. While not directly tied in, and likely to give background on how Boba landed in his current spot, fans of the first show should like this new one.
And like we said, if The Mandalorian Season 3 doesn’t hit it’s markers it might be because of the aforementioned Obi-Wan Kenobi which will explore the timeline following Episode III – The Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV – A New Hope. So there’s plenty to whet the Star Wars whistle coming down the pike. But it just might not be Mando as soon as we’d want.
