The Last Of Us Is About To Dethrone Breaking Bad
The Last of Us has a user score of 9.4/10 on IMDb, which could beat Breaking Bad's 9.5/10 soon.
The Last of Us has finally premiered on HBO, and it has received some massive praise. In fact, you can read our review of the series, here. However, the new The Last of Us adaptation is so good that it currently has a 9.4/10 user rating on IMDb, which could surpass Breaking Bad‘s user score of 9.5/10.
The Last of Us benefits greatly from having Neil Druckmann as an executive producer and writer, as he created the video game for Naughty Dog Studios. Druckmann has paired well with Craig Mazin to produce and release one of the best video game adaptations that have ever been created. Clearly, the user score for the series on IMDb paints that same picture.
IMDb isn’t the only place where The Last of Us is achieving great scores, as it currently holds a 99 percent critic rating and 96 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which beats out Breaking Bad on the critic rating front. To be fair, this is only after one episode of the new series, so no one knows for sure if it will surpass Breaking Bad. However, everyone is currently speaking about this video game adaptation in the highest regard.
The Last of Us follows the collapse of civilization, as a fungus spreading disease wipes out most of humanity. Joel Miller is a hardened survivor living in the DZ (decontamination zone) of Boston, who is then tasked with transporting a girl named Ellie to the Massachusetts State House. The State House is home to the Fireflies faction, who plan to extract a cure from Ellie’s blood, as she is found out to be immune from the deadly virus plaguing the world.
The fact that this new video game adaptation is being mentioned in the same breath as Breaking Bad just proves how impactful the first episode has been for HBO. In fact, it leaped into the number two biggest premiere on HBO behind only House of the Dragon since 2010. Clearly, there is something special going on with this new adaptation.
The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller, Bella Ramsey as Ellie Williams, Gabriel Luna as Tommy Miller, Merle Dandrige as Marlene, and Nick Offerman as Bill. The series was created by Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, with Mazin directing the first episode of the series. Mazin famously wrote The Hangover Part II, The Hangover Part III, and Chernobyl.
The Last of Us will have a lot to accomplish if it’s going to be mentioned on the same level as Breaking Bad, which is seen as the best television show ever created. Breaking Bad would secure Outstanding Drama Series at the Daytime Emmy Awards and Best Television Series – Drama at the Golden Globes, not to mention both Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul received Best Actor awards. We think Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are certainly up to the challenge.
Everyone can stream The Last of Us on HBO Max right now and see if it holds up to the greatness that Breaking Bad is. We are not sure how many seasons The Last of Us will have, but there are two video games that can be used to plan out at least a few seasons worth of plot.
