The Floor Just Made Game Show History
Fox’s new game show, The Floor, is already a big hit. Deadline reported that the series premiere brought in 4.4 million multiplatform viewers within seven days, boosting the same-day 2.5 million viewing numbers by a whopping 73%.
The Floor’s Big Numbers
Fox also reported that 1.1 million of the delayed viewers came from Hulu, and this earned the new game show the accolade of being Fox’s most-streamed game show ever, beating out fellow network shows like Name That Tune and Beat Shazam.
The Floor’s total audience also became Fox’s most-watched Tuesday unscripted debut in more than 13 years, with Masterchef in 2010 being the last to put up similar numbers.
Helped From NFL
The giant debut for the show was undoubtedly bolstered by the eight-minute preview that played after the Giant-Eagles NFL game on Christmas Day.
The series preview had 8.7 million live and same-day viewers, many of whom likely returned to watch the premiere episode after getting a peek at what the show offers.
Rob Lowe Hosts The Floor
The Floor’s episode on Tuesday nabbed 2.7 million live and same-day viewers, showing a gradual increase in audience members.
Rob Lowe hosts the series and features contestants competing each week for a grand cash prize at the end of the season.
Contestants are eliminated, and those who aren’t eliminated continue on to the next episode, making it more than just a one-and-done watch.
First In The Netherlands
The Floor first debuted in the Netherlands in 2023, and its popularity has led to numerous international adaptations, including Fox’s US version.
The original Dutch version of the show saw 100 contestants compete throughout an entire season.
Each contestant stood on a 10×10 LED grid and was chosen at random to compete. The chosen contestant chose an opponent to compete against and participate in a duel.
The Floor Game
In The Floor duels, contestants are given 45-second clocks where they are shown a picture of something related to a topic they were shown when choosing their opponent.
The contestant must guess correctly to stop the clock and give control over to the opponent. They may also choose to pass, but they are given a three-second penalty for passing.
Whoever has their clock run out first is eliminated from the game altogether, and the opponent adds their defeated opponent’s territory to their own on the grid.
They can then choose to compete in another duel or go back to the grid. A random person is then selected at random to take place in the next duel on The Floor.
The Floor On Fox
The American version of The Floor has 81 contestants instead of the 100 from the original Dutch version, and contestants compete on a 9×9 floor grid instead of a 10×10 grid.
The person who claims the most territory by the end of the episode earns a $ 20,000 cash prize, and the last contestant standing at the end of the season gets a $250,000 prize.
You can watch new episodes of this game show on Fox on Tuesdays if you want to try it out for yourself.
