The Crow Reboot Replaces John Wick Movie
There are a lot of high-octane films for audiences to look forward to over the next few years as studios like Marvel, Sony, and Universal all have their plans to bring the action. However, if you’re one of the thousands excited about the John Wick universe spin-off Ballerina, you’ll need to wait a little bit longer as the film has been pushed from June 7, 2024, to June 6, 2025. On the bright side, the movie’s studio, Lionsgate, revealed that the reason for this change-up is because they’ll instead be releasing The Crow reboot on June 7, 2024.
The Crow And Ballerina Swap Places
Essentially, the two features pulled a flip-flop, with The Crow managing to fly its way up a year as Ballerina dances backward. The decision comes after Chad Stahelski (the man behind the Keanu Reeves-led film series) signed on with Lionsgate to oversee the entire lineup of projects. This means that fans can expect an even bigger, bolder, and more explosive storyline from Ballerina than originally planned as Stahelski is the master of stunt performances and high-flying sequences.
Ana de Armas Stars In Ballerina
Under the directorial eye of Len Wiseman, Ballerina stars Ana de Armas as the titular dancer who, by night, is a deadly assassin hunting down the gang members who snuffed out her family’s lives. The project is centered around the character who was first introduced back in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and will be the first big screen off-shoot following the underwhelming arrival of Peacock’s limited series, The Continental, which aired last fall. Between Ballerina and The Crow, Lionsgate has quite a few box office hits up its sleeve as it moves into the next two years of releases.
Bill Skarsgard Is The New Eric Draven
As for The Crow, since things started to pull together for the project two years ago, production has spread its wings and moved swiftly to ensure that the title would take flight as quickly as possible. Director Rupert Sanders, the visionary behind 2012’s Snow White and the Huntsman, took on the hefty task of resurrecting the cult classic and giving it a fresh breath of air for a new audience. With Bill Skarsgård attached to lead as Eric Draven aka The Crow, the movie is shaping up to be an incredible new telling of James O’Barr’s original graphic novel.
The Crow
In The Crow, Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and his fiancee, Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are living a life of devotion and love until everything goes awry one night and they’re sadistically murdered by ghosts from Shelly’s past. When Eric breathes his final breath, he’s given the option to seek revenge on those who ruined his perfect world, by finding the men responsible and bringing them to justice. The project will also star names including Danny Huston and Laura Birn.
The Crow Is A Cult Classic
The Crow is one of the biggest revamps in recent years as it serves as the second time the story has received an on-screen makeover since Alex Proyas’ 1994 movie of the same name. Aside from its performance with viewers, the original film took on a legacy of its own after a prop mishap on set left leading star and martial arts master Brandon Lee dead.
The lore surrounding the original title soon grew to be bigger than the feature itself and has resurfaced over the last two years since the accidental death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Alec Baldwin’s Rust.
With both Ballerina and The Crow shifting their release dates, it’s a reminder to us all to take things with a grain of salt when it comes to Hollywood’s release timeline because you never know what could be moved.
